Suggest that you don't check the Kent/Essex thread or scorecard in that caseMrOneLung said:Well I thought this and Kent/Essex both started tomorrow so not kept up with this at all0 -
Does anyone ever think that when commentators give stats they use the wrong ones. Atherton has just said ‘no team has ever won a test at Old Trafford having won the toss and chosen to bowl’. The relevant stat is how many test matches at Old Trafford have been won by the team batting last, who won the toss is irrelevant.1

We’re due to play in India early next year , no dates confirmed as yet .killerandflash said:
It seems we have no matches at all between January and May when we have a random home T20 series against Pakistan. Starting 22nd May in Headingley, which sounds grim.Todds_right_hook said:Is englands next test series against the w indies next June? No overseas tests this winter?3 -
I agree that the latter stat is more relevant but Atherton wanted to see Stokes' reaction to the notion that captains that do choose to bowl first don't win at Old Trafford. That should be qualified with how many have actually done so though.Gary Poole said:Does anyone ever think that when commentators give stats they use the wrong ones. I see that. I often have the same irritation when they show stats about highest successful run chases but not highest fourth innings scores. I think often it is done to make things look a bit more sensationalAddick Addict said:

Does that mean no team has won at Old Trafford batting last then ?Gary Poole said:Does anyone ever think that when commentators give stats they use the wrong ones. How's that not been given first time1

The umpire seemed to shake his head first and then look as if he wanted to change his mind but couldn't without losing faceLeuth said:How's that not been given first time0 -
I’m just glad it didn’t come up umpire’s call0

I wish England wouldn't go so all out with the short stuff to Head. It makes it so predictable what he will face, he knows he can stay back1
-
Almost gloved one up in the air though… got away with it0

There are appeals and there are appeals but when the batsman has his bat and both feet in, it really becomes a waste of everyone's time checking it0

So Moeen has gone for 17 in 2 overs. At what point does he come back on to bowl? Wood has just finished his second spell so Anderson, Woakes and Broad are going to have to bowl for a good while unless Moeen is brought on again.Addick Addict said:
With lots of rain breaks there might only be three of them bowling at any given time. If Moeen is hit out of the attack or as ineffective as Head might be then we might have one less seamer than them to rotate. They've also had the same ten day break as our bowlers and they don't have to bowl any of them in three or four over bursts as Wood does to be at his most effective.kentaddick said:i guess aussies are banking on lots of rain breaks to get their bowlers a shower and a massage. No, but knowing that would be more relevantMrOneLung said:

Watching England bowl to Travis Head is incredibly frustrating. How about hit a good length with the short one as a semi-regular surprise?1
-
@Gary Poole England have won batting fourth eight times at Old Trafford, most recently in 2020, making 277/7 against Pakistan.1

Thanks Chizz, you should go only the tele. That much more relevant than whether they won the toss or notChizz said:@Gary Poole England have won batting fourth eight times at Old Trafford, most recently in 2020, making 277/7 against Pakistan.1 -
Bit worried that Marnus and Head are starting to build a partnership here0

And there's the answer. Great work Moeen!Addick Addict said:

Huge wicket. Well done Mo2

Another weird dismissal for Marnus , wondering if he's fundamentally changed his technique0
-
We really needed that. Great work, Mo!0

England have to be careful not to burn their reviews, as it looks like we'll need to use them...0

I think it's more a concentration thing. Instead of showing the full face, he's tried to work one too square. As Ponting says, in the previous over he had to bail out twice when coming down the pitch and I think that, combined with reaching 50, has caused him to over think things rather than play on instinct. He is as big a thinker about the game as there is but it is that strength over done that seems to be his undoing at the moment.MarcusH26 said:Another weird dismissal for Marnus , wondering if he's fundamentally changed his technique1 -

Fairly evenly poised. Whoever wins the next session wins the day and goes a long way to deciding the outcome of the Ashes0
