end of the day we can see miles is still a growing lad and is picking up niggles here and there anyway and as holden says is adjusting to his ever changing body and it can be challenging with the demands of league 1 football
its a squad game nowdays and anyone with real quality will believe they can get and stay in the team anyway they all need to be pushing eachother if we are to be challenging to go up3 -

No guarantee that will happen. If the striker aint up to the challenge of keeping someone out the team then i'm not sure id want him here. Want people who want to do well, not sit on there arse collecting splinters from the bench.4 -

Agree with all this... sorry to go all golfie on you, but we can't keep approaching a season with the bare minimum of a first XI without the quality challenging to fight for their place, especially up front.10

Me too - he was the freebie I wanted most when the Stockton vs May clamour was going on - but can't see it now we've brought May in and he would also want 4-3-3 which appears to no longer be our preferred formation.LargeAddick said:Would be very happy if we can sign Sam Smith.

I completely get the need for competition, but I think people need to manage expectations on what they believe a 'quality' striker is, what that sort of players motivations are, what the competition is like out there, and how much of our resources we are putting towards this position - especially considering a chunk of those resources are still being used for Chuks.
It's easy for people here to argue that someone 'quality' will be happy to come here and fight for their position.
But firstly as a club how much are you willing to pay for someone who could end up be behind a talented but raw youth product, a bloke who has scored 20 goals the last two season, and if fit the cheat code - especially when there are other important areas (where we were our weakest last season) that need addressing. Someone 'quality' would demand the finances, and are you willing to use that on someone who might not be first team.
Secondly if you are a 'quality' player who no doubt has offers from other clubs where you might potentially be being brought in to be first choice, why are you going to choose to go to a club where you might end up be behind a talented but raw youth product, a bloke who has scored 20 goals the last two season, and if fit the cheat code.
For me I think we need 2 more strikers, as I don't trust Chuks. However I don't think we should be looking for someone of the 'quality' of May. I'd like one in the ball park of Sam Smith who I think won't be budget busters (but might want guaranteed first team), and one who can copy the impact of Jack Payne who - @Garrymanilow has written about before - whilst obviously not Chuks level but has actually a decent return as a rotation option.
It's probably in my head, but especially when it comes to strikers on this forum, it feels like people just expect 4 absolute mustard options who will be happy to rotate in and out with each other, and yet we still have the budget to strengthen up other areas we really need.

Also, as good as Leaburn is and even given that he's "one of ours" he shouldn't expect to get into the side automatically as first choice IMO. Having to prove himself won't do any harm.0 -
I was keen on Sam Smith but I’m not sure he is the type of striker we need now that we have May. I would still be happy with signing him but would also still want 1 more striker in as we need one to cover Leaburn so needs to be more of a physical presence. From what Holden was saying it did kind of hint that he was thinking similarlyLadapo, Nombe, Clark-Harris all fit the bill but would all be expensive or unlikely purchases at the moment. Tyreece Simpson on loan I think would be a good and maybe more realistic option4

Depends if they're training and performing above him. Letting Fraser go would mean we need to replace him with the same or better. Quite where from I don’t know. If someone fitting that bill was available then Derby would be in for them. Unless it’s a silly offer we can’t refuse I’ll be very disappointed.3

Because I genuinely don't think we'll spend a significant fee on someone to be in effect a third option. More likely to be a Sam Smith type on a free.
Feel that if there's a budget to be spent from the new owners that its better utilised elsewhere in the squad.0 -

Unless they bid stupid money there's no way we agree to sell Fraser to Derby.
