So that tells me the issues with the top order against the top international sides is nothing new 😞. Fingers crossed they get their act together in this do or die test but I’m not holding my breath.0

As in pick 5 players from the decade, or 5 who played together?RedChaser said:Just out of interest can one of you ardent cricket followers tell me what our best top order line up, openers to number 5, has been in say the last decade or five years even?0 -
From a completely selfish standpoint I love this rain 😂0

Five who played together I suppose you’d have to go back a long way but either would be interesting.North Lower Neil said:

Here tomorrow too, but some friends have come up for the day only so feel for them. Had a lovely meal last night so glad we came up last night despite this boredom of watching clouds now.Pelling1993 said:From a completely selfish standpoint I love this rain 😂2 -
i m o it has often been the top quality oppo fast bowlers as much as lack of technique from the openers .. not often county batsmen face really quick bowling until/if they make the test teamRedChaser said:So that tells me the issues with the top order against the top international sides is nothing new 😞. Either way I guess you're struggling for a decent opener bar Cook.RedChaser said:

apparently despite the fact that no play will occur this morning, a lunch break will still be taken for 40 minutes - regardless of if the conditions are playable.
Whats the point?1 -
Strauss retired more than 10 years ago I'm afraid.Lincsaddick said:

Interesting question of who captains in the next match if Stokes is unable to play. I expect he will drag himself out onto the pitch on one leg if he has to so its probably academic but interesting discussion.
Vice captain Pope out for the series. I expect Broad to be rested the next match. Root before this match said in an interview "those days are over" when asked about the possibility of him filling in.
Does Jimmy do it if he comes back in? Moeen probably has the most captaincy experience albeit in white ball. Crawley? Bairstow? It's too soon for Brook.
We really are bereft of options.
Foakes has captained Surrey. Perhaps we could being him in to keep and skipper the side.0 -
I wonder which test line up had the highest test average as a team at the time they played.Imagine that is pretty much impossible to calculate0

Broad or Root are the sensible options but as you say, one might be rested and the other might not want to.cantersaddick said:Interesting question of who captains in the next match if Stokes is unable to play. If Moeen plays he's maybe the other option.0 -
I love Joe Root, really do
I think we are fed lines that he refuses to bat 3 and this one about not being willing to stand in as captain, I think he said "those days are over" to show he has given the current captain and vice captain his full support rather than him refusing to do a role if asked, its totally hypothetical
But this is a totally biased opinion0 -
if Stokes needs a double amputation (arm or leg, one of each or both) he'll still be there for the rest of the series .. IF he dies, then Root will be asked to take over as skippercantersaddick said:Interesting question of who captains in the next match if Stokes is unable to play. THAT causes a problem .. Rated: 18 England openers since 2012 - can Jason Roy solve problem position for Ashes 2019? (thenationalnews.com) .. not one of those listed have done a good job .. I;ll default to Duckett, ENGLISH born lolcantersaddick said:

How’s it looking up there (those in attendance)0
-
Typical cheating Aussies. Go 2-0 up then bring in the rainclouds to wash out the rest of the series.1

Completely agree with you. Love the man too. My question was purely hypothetical. I'm sure if the worst did happen Root would be asked and would do the job whatever hos concerns about being pushed onto doing it longer term.Carter said:I love Joe Root, really do

It least we are only into day 3. Even if we get no play today the game is so far advanced that a finish is almost a foregone conclusion.0

Yeah supposed to be dry until early evening both tomorrow and Monday so should still get a result.golfaddick said:It least we are only into day 3. Even if we get no play today the game is so far advanced that a finish is almost a foregone conclusion.1 -
Given there's no cricket and I'm bored, what did you have for your dinner?!suzisausage said:
