batting .. we can't keep expecting Stokes to bail out the top/middle order .. I expect the Aussies to set us around 260/270 and that will be hard to get in the 4th against their attack .. sorry to be so pessimistic

    We're a lay
We're not chasing anything over 200 on that track

I don't want to be chasing anymore than 240, even then I would imagine it will be a tough ask unless Root can make a big score. Bairstow owes the side a knock that's for sure.

Forecast for the next 3 days is awful.

Boils my piss that I am sat here in glorious sunshine knowing we won't get 3 days play in and already short of overs.

Not that it would have done England any favours on this occasion.

Can’t see England chasing more than 200 even if the weather holds up I’m afraid.

Punters have been listening to you. It's a coin toss now although the draw has seen some decent support too:

    England 2.30
    Australia 2.30
    Draw 7.40

I’m afraid it’s all over, we simply don’t have the ability to out gun Australia.

Forcaste for tomorrow is awful from about 10am.   A couple of hours play tomorrow could play into pur hands though.  Sunday and Monday are better.

This is the 10th time in 14 years that Hants have made the semi-finals. By contrast, the likes of Middx and Derbyshire have only reached the semis once in 23 years. Middx won it in 2008 when they beat Kent but when one considers the players that they have had at their disposal in the last decade, they really have been massive under achievers. This was their squad in 2017:

    Brendon McCullum (*)

    Steven Finn

    James Franklin

    Tom Helm

    Ryan Higgins

    Dawid Malan

    Eoin Morgan

    Ravi Patel

    Toby Roland-Jones

    John Simpson (+)

    Tim Southee

    Nathan Sowter

    Paul Stirling

Bowl them out as quick as we can (obviously). I'll back us to chase anything under 350 but would like it to be nearer 250.

Someone else needs to step up with the bat and lead the way. We cannot rely on stokes to carry us through every time.

Just out of interest can one of you ardent cricket followers tell me what our best top order line up, openers to number 5, has been in say the last decade or five years even?

Adrian Rollins, former Derbyshire and Northants cricketer. One suspects that Foakes isn't the only cricketer to have ever suffered from this. Does anyone seriously still think that picking Bairstow to keep was the right decision? Did Australia pick Carey for his batting or his keeping? How many mistakes has Carey made by comparison to Bairstow?

There was also some talk that Foakes didn't react particularly well to the decision so potentially they might be worried about upsetting the dressing room or something if they brought him back.

It has always been a false economy not to pick your best wicketkeeper. Been proved many many times.
Missed chances can cost you stacks of runs.
    Bring back Foakes!

Exactly. Was posted on here before Bairstow averages around 4 runs an innings more than Foakes but do we really think Foakes doesn’t save 8 runs a match via his keeping ?

Beautiful sunny skies in Chapel Allerton until 9.54 when the storm hit. On the bus to the ground now but it’s not looking promising.
