I was told an offer was made and accepted but it's been very quiet since then so not sure how true that was/is. we're his preferred destination and he wants to come home - only leaving us and the gills as options for him.
AM may be 'less than 500k' but he wouldn't come and play for free. Wages and contract would be in the region of £1.3m, we are already lumbered with a huge multiyear contract for "a proven goalscorer/cheat code" and once he's Charltonised properly he'll be either injured or forgot where the goal is.
If he goes to Gillingham, then the sky will not fall in!!
I am sure you will find something to moan about anyway.
In fact if May is so much the be all and end all what don't you put your money where your mouth is and buy him yourself?
Anyway, how is injury prone Hector doing?
If there is nothing to moan about make some bullshit up anyway. Never known people wallow in misery so much they make up their own fantasies to be miserable about.
100% we will sign at least 1 striker.
🤡🤡
As for suggesting I buy May myself, how absurd is that? I’ve bought a season ticket, a Valley Express season ticket too so have put my money where my mouth is so would be contributing to his purchase.
As for Hector, I wasn’t calling him injury prone but was questioning why he’d gone six plus months not playing before he joined us. That has now been explained and I’m pleased he’s signed up again, in fact wish it were for longer.
Finally, I’m not happy with the Adams family reference or the clown emojis, neither of which are necessary. You don’t know me or any of my family and I find them offensive. Although it says a lot about you. It’s a shame because I always find you posts very readable and reasonable.12 -

Maybe Holden has a dilemma. Somebody like May alongside Miles...ideal. But knowing Miles picks up an injury, just having May means changing your entire style of play.0

Seen at the training ground.
Offer accepted.
Others interested.
Charlton "in the knows" being told we're not interested is in case we don't get him and lose out to Gillingham.
Let's see what happens this week......
Put it this way, from what I was told, Holden wasn’t overly keen, he did meet him as the opportunity was put in front of him, he likes him after the meeting, but still preferred other targets.
May isn't an alternative like for like for Leaburn. Signing him to be would be foolish. Signing him "because" and then working out how to play to accommodate him would be equally folly.
If the plan is to play a 2 great it makes sense. If the plan is to play a 3 and have May as an option to play a two If you want, brilliant but I don't think we would have that luxury.
If the plan is to play 2 we would need another two strikers on top of May as well as a goal scoring "10" that we currently don't have.
I can absolutely see the argument for not making him a top priority or even not signing him if we could.
It does slightly concern me that only Gillingham, despite paying well, and Bristol Rovers seem to have shown their hand. Saying that Ipswich and Wednesday have gone, Peterborough wouldn't sign him, so I am not sure who else would "normally" be in for him.1 -

Apparently Joe Piggot is terminating his contract at Ipswich. Obviously another former player…
Would anyone take him as a back up to Leaburn and another striker?8 -

May wants to come to Charlton
Holden wants May to come to Charlton
Sandgaard is willing to pay the required fee to get May to Charlton
The new owners don't want any money spent on fees, at least until they takeover or maybe not at all
Why haven't they submitted accounts?0 -
I think someone else said it but ill parrott, the idea of having a 25 season striker or a striker signing for along period is over in football for club our size.
What we really need is 3 or 4 players that can be relied upon to get 10-15 goals each.
Unless your a top top club the idea a player is going to sign and stay for good is rapidly deminishing. So for that reason im not to concerned with Mays age. A bit confusing but what im trying to say is i think the quality of the whole team is more important than having a goalscorer. Look at BWP for us he scored a lot of goals first half of the season andbthen they dried up second half yet we still carried on winng matches.5 - Sponsored links:

DH may not have been keen but changed his mind.0 -
Get May, Ladapo and another Smith?7
-
Unless you are family of one of the players, or his agent, how can any of us know what is really going on?
I'm quite liking the suspense, i just want the takeover to go through, so we can really see what the new lot are capable of with transfer targets.7 -
May, Ladapo, leaburn and maybe someone like Piggot as a back up2

As well as the ones that were shipped out in January there are others that have big question marks over them if we play 352 or 442 with a diamond or lopsided like Powell did.
Do we value flexibility over having two players for each position?
There is so much more to it than x is good so sign him.0 -
I don't want to go into this season with Leaburn as our main striking option. He done well last year but I'm not completely sold to be honest.
We also need to replace JRS goals. I liked that Bolton player Afolayan but I believe he's moved on2 -
Every time I've seen Piggot play I've never been impressed and always thought his level was L2. He obviously had a decent goal return for Wimbledon but I have never thought I'd like us to sign him. However, could be decent as a backup on a free but I imagine he'll want to be first choice somewhere and I wouldn't want that here.
For me, I'd go for Sam Smith over the most realistic strikers we could get, including May. Good age and surely being at Cambridge is well within our price range.2 -

Afolayan is now in Germany with St Pauli but definitely a player of that ilk would be a fantastic addition.0 -
Pigott would be an awful signing, even if he was 5th choice!!
he has scored 6 goals in his last two seasons at league 1 level. The hated mr Bonne has score 14 league goals in the same time.Is Bonne good enough to be back up?5 - Sponsored links:

We need a team for now, not worrying about whether a player can be here for 3/4/5 years. If May signed a 2 year deal and scored the goals that got us promoted in that time, his job is done.6 -

Wouldnt have him anywhere this club again on the playing side.4 -
I get the whole "can't play X up top on their own" bla bla bla nonsense, but you absolutely can, assuming you have an idea of how to play X up top.on their own. We can have Leaburn, May and Ladapo as 3 the main forwards and get the best out of all them.
Luckily, for us, we don't have a clear way of playing nor much of a first team to worry about "changing styles"!

Would be criminal if they screwed up the striker signings this summer, last the last two years.0

There's a lot of fuss on here and on twitter about Alfie May and it does make sense, he's the best player in the world6
-
There really is a MELTDOWN happening here, we are a month away from the first game, anyone would think it is next week, just chill, have a 🍻🍻 or two,...all will be good, trust me, I know fu*k all, and that's enough for me...🙄1 -

You have to have a method, or preferably methods, of scoring goals, creating chances, getting the ball up the pitch etc etc0
