45-50 a lot easier for the tail to get than 70.I think it’s a swings and roundabouts situation.Englands middle order lost this in the first innings.I think Baz ball needs to drop a gear but with the Aussies ageing, I'm looking forward to the next tour, I think we will be at out most competitive in a long time (I'm deliberately glossing over that we have an aged bowling attack)0 -

Now's the time for Josh Tongue to reveal he's basically the new Jacques Kallis.3

Atherton is beginning to sound like Brownie, giving clues how to get Jimmy out, sounds disappointed we are still out there...sure he's not an Aussie!!0

Stokes is the ultimate X factor cricketer.
For England to have won this after the Bairstow 'stumping' Captain Stokes would've had to score 200 ! Considering that before this Innings, Stokes averaged 35 that would've been a miracle, especially as he struggles to run. (Yes, he could've done it in 6's)
Amazing knock and big credit to Ben but I hope England are honest when they assess the last two tests.

It looked as though Bairstow looked up at him and the umpire moved towards bowler taking the bowlers hat/glasses off. If that was the case should the umpire have intervened before it went to tv umpire?
you can see at 17s and 33s that both umpires had heads down not looking by the time the ball hits the wicket. they both thought the ball was dead1 -
I’ll freely admit I’m only a casual cricket watcher, and only pay proper attention when there is an Ashes series or World Cup, but in the 25 years or so I’ve been following things there’s always been one big difference between England and Australia. Well, two if you count that they seem to produce more absolutely world class players, but the main one is they just sense when their moment of opportunity is in a game and take advantage of it far more consistently than England. England seem to need to be in a mess to focus minds a bit and battle out of adversity whereas the Aussies will pounce when they’re on top and hammer home the advantage. So often England battle back to just about get on top and then take their foot off the gas and let the Aussies back in. I think it’s a national psyche problem for us as much as it is a cricketing one.2

We need a fast bowler, and we don't have a fit one. Most of the problem comes down to that.1

If the rest of the series is going to be like this game, I'm opening up a factory making cricket helmets.4

The most frustrating thing is that we're 2-0 down when we could've arguably won both tests.
Silly declaration in the first test.
Gave away stupid wickets in this one.7 -
Did well to make as much of a fight of it as they did, although it was really only a few of them who seemed up for the fight.Damage was really done in the First Innings with those cheap wickets needlessly chasing the short stuff when England were on top.2
