1. I ranted about a poor shot before lunch
2. I turned the tv off thinking it was lunch7 -
England have to be careful not to base their tactics on a weather forecast. If the rain stops by 10am and we get 5 hours of play tomorrow, that's a lot of overs left in this match for Australia to chase down any total.0

This partnership is match IMO.
Of it clicks we will be bowling this afternoon with a big lead. If it doesn't we will be bowling this afternoon with a small one:-)0 -
So what target are they trying to set the Aussies? 300?0

I'd be hoping for something around 300-330 as a target , reliant on Stokes and JB not playing stupid shots for the first half hour.1 - Sponsored links:

Be interesting to see how Aus go about batting - obviously all depends on the total and the weather tomorrow but they may not have the option of plodding along if they are trying to chase down say 275-300 which will also provide opportunities for us too.
If we set them 350/375 plus (which is obviously very unlikely now anway so maybe a moot point) I get the feeling they would just try to bat out the draw - so in a way I could still see an earlyish declaration with a "gettable" total to tempt Aus to go for it.

The Aussies will chase any target the way they chase targets. I very much doubt that they will be scooping the first ball of the innings but expect a solid base, taking full advantage of any bad ball and looking to take down any of the non frontline three that they can.
One thing that has to be taken into account is an unintended consequence of Bazball and is that England's bowlers could end up bowling a lot more overs in this series than their Aussie counterparts. That might make a difference when we come to the final two Tests given the close proximity of the matches.0 -
Can't see them chasing 300+ even with Ali's dodgy finger0
-
if these 2 stay until tea (and hopefully well after), we can set the Aussies a very difficult target .. how is Moeen's dodgy digit ?0
-
This looks close for Stokes - Edit bump ball no probs1

calm down Stokesey f f s0

We need a lead of at least 250. 300 would be better. 350 would be my aim.0

10-15 overs at them this evening so close to 90 overs in total. Still need another 100+ runs before we can look at declaring......assuming we aren't all out before tea..1 -
It was only a matter of time before Bairstow got a review wrong0
