I don’t class myself as old, but so many men that provided the soundtrack to my sporting interests as a child have now passed, Motson, Brian Moore, Peter Alliss, David Coleman, Richie Benaud, Murray Walker, Peter O’Sullevan, Dan Maskall, Bill McClaren, Sid Waddell, Dickie Davies etc

    There’s hardly any left

This news really saddened me and feel I lost a part of my football growing up. One of the parts of the game that made it beautiful. Will be missed. Great voice, great man.

    RIP Motty

I always hesitate to say “it’s what he would have wanted” as you never really know what goes on in someone elses head, but there is a lovely symmetry in this story.

Wasn't his first ever match at The Valley? He did a talk at a screening of a Charlton film years ago at the Greenwich Picturehouse. Seemed like a lovely man.

Dickie Davies this week, Motty today... hope someone's checked in on Des Lynam.
Legend. Had a soft spot for Charlton.
1-1 with Chelsea....I've read that Chelsea was his team.

Bit of a mix up with the valedictory today, could they really have not waited? And can't we be trusted to do proper silences any more?

    Ah well, RIP Motty.
