They were informed during the first half, as frankly some of us were getting f**king concerned about it. If that light had fallen, someone would have been killed, as the light fittings are heavy and 30 feet above the seating below. Someone at the club SHOULD have noticed this, this isn't a faulty hand dryer or broken toilet lock, so I'm baffled why you don't think this is threadworthy.
I posted this on the match thread. The light fitting is in the middle of the picture, and was waving around in the wind, as it was only held on by a cable.

I didn't say I would move other fans.
I said I would alert everyone around me to move (as opposed to moving myself and let a light fall on someone).
Obviously the club should check these important things before every game and I too would have been extremely concerned.
I'm thankful no one was hurt and totally agree that it's not good enough.
My issue was the amount of constantly negative posts on CL and perhaps I should have started a new thread, rather than post on this thread. Apologies.1 -
The daft thing about it was the stewards were trying to move us at half time & asking us to sit in other parts of the stand. Problem was it was half time & around 50% of the fans in blocks F&G weren't in their seats as they were either going to the loo or for a pint. So no-one could tell what seats were legitimately free & what ones would be taken come 4pm.
In the end only a few rows were moved.....but I spent a good part of the 2nd half looking up at the light & not down on the pitch.3 -

I watched it rock and spin as the wind caught it and thought it best to move - it's a big old unit.
I just blew up the @killerandflash photo (thanks killer), you can't really tell if there is a safety chain or it is indeed just being held on by the electrical cable - either way why take the risk? Incidentally my son noticed the equivalent light nearest the Jimmy Seed stand was swaying - which I can confirm. I'm sure Charlton will check all the light fittings in the stand ... won't they?

After the Lincoln game was in the Rose pub in Dartford, got talking to a bloke in there who is an electrician - told me that he used to be a contractor at The Valley up until late 2019 - he now refuses to work at The Valley as the electrics are now non compliant, and in his view dangerous to work on - told me a lot of money would need to be spent to bring up to scratch……4

A venue that has thousands turning up on a regular basis should be thoroughly inspected and got up to proper spec on a weekly basis.
In addition burger boy should check all light fittings in person.
After all burger boy ought to know about electricity having had a car charger installed in the Valley car park, reportedly for his exclusive personal use.0 -

Just to add a different angle to this, when my company used to maintain the electrics at The Valley including the emergency lights we regularly reported faults and safety issues to the club, all of which were ignored for months before being rectified.
On one occasion all the emergency lights in the South Stand had malfunctioned and the club held two home games before the problem was solved, and this was during the winter months when it is dark at 16.30, it could have been very messy if there had been a power cut.
I could tell you a lot more but wont however this is not a new thing, been going on for years at The Valley

Had a lump of wood wedged into the contactor (switch) in order to keep it energised.
All components open to touch.
Had a steward stand at the switchroom door in order to prevent anyone entering.
And as for the central batteries/UPS for the emergency lighting.
That hasn't been maintained for years.
Maintenance doesn't bring in revenue, hence it gets pushed to the back of the queue.3 -

I am not aware of the regulations surrounding who and when visits the club to inspect their paperwork. My company was contracted to carry out quarterly and six monthly checks in line with British Standards and regulations but the club chose not to act straight away when problems were reported.Lordflashheart said:

ROTW mentions above the central batteries supporting the emergency lights, I could go on forever writing stories about those and the fun and games.1
