It's not so much being fifth (when they had been top two before the World Cup) it's the manner in which they've been playing in their defeats - they've been woeful and clueless for some time now.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Dean Smith had also been criticising the fans recently, saying that playing away from home is better for the players because they then don't have the whole stadium on their backs, so that hasn't gone down too well either.0 -

5th perhaps, but 15 points behind the leaders Burnley is a chasm. Norwich with their parachute payments and proven top Championship players would expect to be fighting for the automatics, not level on points with the likes of Millwall, QPR and Reading.Briston_Addick said:

It's strange that the top five tiers in English football, when we are only half way, all seem to only have two or three contenders for the title - the gap to 4th place, in order of each division, is 10, 13, 13, 16 and 14 points respectively. Admittedly some teams have got one or two games in hand but usually there is far more congestion at the top for at least a couple of the divisions.killerandflash said:

A fair point, especially when the clubs entire model seems to be based on get promoted, get relegated, get promoted. Not getting promoted this season could be disastrous for them when you look at who could be coming down from the PL into the championship next season. Bigger teams with more money and more parachute payments.killerandflash said:

Etherington had apparently been denied permission to field ex-Posh striker Tom Nichols in his three games in charge as the player was set for a January move. Nichols will join League Two’s bottom club Gillingham on New Year’s Day.
Crawley's loss is Gillingham's gain. Who knows? They might reach 10 League goals by the end of the season!3 -

Be interesting to look at the comments on here over the last two season in regards to their transfer business, and the strong start to the season they had.

Adkins is front runner for the job!! While I initially thought poor Pompey, he took us on a run which almost resulted in us making the playoffs.
