We have not long got rid of the last past it donkey from Forest. I don’t want another, particularly if he is a known disruptive personality. I feel he would bring very little.0
-
You admit he hasn’t done it for us for two years, why give him another chance when we have so many CMs? Perhaps he’s an average player who occasionally looks good? It would explain why at 27 he’s moving to a small L1 club.Dave Rudd said:

Letting Gilbey go is a mistake.
I'll take the hit if I prove to be wrong.
He hasn't done it for us, but we are letting a good player go. Better than Morgan, better than Kirk, better than McGrandles, better than Jaiyesimi.
Mistake.
Kirk and DJ play in other positions so the comparison is irrelevant.
None of us have seen enough of McGrandles in a Charlton shirt to judge him.
Fraser has already equalled his 2 league goals last season and his place isn’t completely secure with Payne pushing for a start.
He’s not suited to Dobson or Morgan’s role in Garner’s system so I struggle to see where he’ll get the regular game time he’s after.
Freeing up the budget of his wages should help us strengthen in positions where that’s a priority.11 -
Was quite funny to watch on Netflix though. Think he got subbed off in one game and said nah I’m not having that. Then scored against them for Villa later in the seasonDubaiCAFC said:
Hope not.. he downed tools at Sunderland soon as the club struggled and refused to play.Henry Irving said:Lewis Grabben is an interesting one.
Croydon born, now 34 but was a regular for Forest last season.
Doesn't fit the young player with sell on potential model but if you want some experience he could be the man.
No idea if he can play Garnerball but he can score goals.0 -
I don’t think any of us really know exactly what’s going on behind the scenes. I still think we’ll get JFC & Gilbey off the books in time to free up the funding for a striker (and I think a CB is in the pipeline already). But if we don’t, and we miss the playoffs for want of a goal or two here and there, then it really will be meltdown time.0

I recognise you as the one who constantly attacks DJ whenever the opportunity arises. Also being the guy who reckons it's a mistake to get rid of a player who has been diappointing for two years because he's better than a player you haven't seen 90 minutes of? Bold choice man, save some shit takes for the rest of us.Dave Rudd said:

as much as as much as I have wanted it to work with a Gilbey it just hasn’t clicked. Too often he doesn’t affect the game in any way and it is probably time to part ways now. He needs to kickstart his career elsewhere.

Fully agree. In flashes, he has had some really good games but his inconsistency lets him down hugely and becomes a spare part in most games.Swisdom said:as much as as much as I have wanted it to work with a Gilbey it just hasn’t clicked. Seems like a decent chap so only wish him the best if/when he does go.4 -

How anyone can pass judgement of McGrandles is beyond me. He's played like 60mins of football...4 -

Alex Gilbey is the Therry Racon of this squad. Can drive forward with the ball, supposed to be box to box but some argue he hides, inconsistent with minimal goals and assists.
Despite his performances will always have a section of the fan base who rate him highly.12 -

Well ... it's not really your opinion, is it? It's just another bandwagon that you have jumped on.

MacGillivray not starting cup games suggests he's also likely to go
So that's 3 sets of wages freed up (although we may have to subsidise JFK)
Garner keeps mentioning every player having a price so wouldn't be shocked if one of Kirk/Clare/CBT/Dobson/DJ went IF the price was right ...not that I'd like to see any of them go.
If someone goes for a fee then I'd expect an attacker to come in for a fee. Otherwise any budget saved goes on loans.0 -
We understand Charlton are keen to tie Sean Clare down to a new contract. Norwich, Huddersfield and Sunderland are monitoring his situation.

Lads I've come up with a great idea.
Why don't we convert Gilbey to a striker and that way we will kill two birds with one stone.19 -

Maybe he is a defender then? And perhaps he did more last season than just look good carrying the ball out of defence past no one?ButtleJR said:1 -

Did mention that Championship teams love a RB in Clare's mould. Could see him moving on for £1m + at some stage personally (if on a good contract term). Hope not, as it's noticeable when he is not in the team.0

Fwiw, I’d get him, CBT and Dobson on longer contracts immediately if we can.13

Saw you last post on the Sandgaard thread @AndyG. Pretty much reflects my thoughts as I never thought we wouldn't sign a striker, and still think we will, but the clocks ticking and I think it should be the priority.
We do still have three available spaces left to fill under the squad number limit though, and that's before letting anyone else go. So I do expect to see plenty more late activity before the window shuts. Snacks needed for deadline day again I fear, if the budget stretches that far of course, which I'm sure it will.

Didnt we put CBT onto a longer contract after his initial short-term contract when JJ was put in charge? Thought it took us til the end of next season from my memory, when does it expire?RC_CAFC said:Fwiw, I’d get him, CBT and Dobson on longer contracts immediately if we can.0 -
The extension was done last year, so runs until the end of this seasonLonelyNorthernAddick said:

This may be controversial, but I would be prepared to sell any one of them for 1m if it meant we could buy a really mobile striker, like Lyle Taylor (but not him).RC_CAFC said:Fwiw, I’d get him, CBT and Dobson on longer contracts immediately if we can.
Such a player would make more of a positive impact than the loss of any one of the three, although I do like all three of them.1
