I personally think you ignored the most important one which is CBT. Is he consistent enough to score and create to be in a promotion challenging side.
Hope you’re right, but it’s hard to make a point on him based on previous seasons, I’m definitely a fan of his though.
  • I'm definitely more happy with this summer's business so far than last summer's. I feel like I've got a starting 11 that I'd be comfortable to see opening day without too many qualms about players out of position or anything.

It's now about having the depth that if we lost say Stockley or Dobbo to an injury in preseason that it wouldn't be complete panic stations about how we would cope.
  • What about taking a chance on this striker, he's 43 so wouldn't cost a lot and is a prolific goalscorer at non league level.  I have followed this strikers career for years, always believing he would become a prolific goalscorer one day

He probably still looks about 19!
  • Hopefully going back to the Theo Foley type football where we just set out to outscore the opposition.
Hopefully bloody NOT.   Theo's tippy tappy football got us relegated and never looked like getting back up from Div 3.
  • His other seasons at this level though saw him score 6, 5 and 1.

I'm not quite sure he can be classed as a proven goalscorer, more that was just a very good season in a side playing a way that suited him. I'd personally be happy if we can get 7-8 goals from him.
I can't see us agreeing on what constitutes a proven goal scorer, but confidence is key and we do need to see some goals coming from midfield in the remaining pre season games.

There is no guarantee that if a "proven" goalscorer comes in that he will stay that way. Charlton have a history of signing players who score goals and then it dries up! Find a striker that suits the system that will be played as a start and go from there.

  • experienced journeyman midfielder that can score goals... Awful photoshop.
  • Have the physios complained to Sandgaard, saying that Aneke and Inniss wont keep them busy enough over the season?

Amazing player, but god he's injury prone

We need another striker, possibly two and another left back. I'd be happy with that in all honesty.
    Very much agree with this.

For the striker(s), I'd like to see at least one in the Grant/Taylor/Washington mould. I think Stockley is decent, but highly predictable to play against. With wingers like Kirk/CBT, oppositions can fairly safely assume that we're going to aim to just put it on his noggin most of the time. A player that can either run in behind or carry genuine pace scares the teams that just have meathead centre-halves that can only play against the Stockleys of this world. I'd love a statement signing in the form of Alfie May or Cole Stockton (both of whom I feel would add established finishing to our forward line), but I suspect there may be budget limitations. That said, we have been relatively shrewd so far though, so maybe? Add in a winger/striker on loan from above and I think it's feeling more solid in terms of attacking options.

LB has been a problem for as long as I can remember. I felt like I saw plenty of serviceable options vs. us at home last season. Anyone who stays fit, isn't 32+, can defend and has plenty of gas in the tank would be fine, particularly if it's on a permanent 2-3 year deal. I feel like a loan in this position is fine, but I'd rather not have both our full backs on loans.

I'm pleased with the business we've done so far. The ones that take longer are the ones that are hanging out for the best deal with the slimy agents. A decent striker would really give everyone a boost.
  • Not keen on that one, but do we need an experienced pro in to guide what is now a young team? Or will we be ok with the influential players in their prime like Innis, JFC, Stockley, O Connell?
  • We’ve signed a midfielder from Luton the last 2 seasons and they just signed Luke Freeman in that position, for those reasons I think it’s a decent rumour - even if it is bollocks!
  • Do we need Lansbury, will he improve us, I’m not that convinced.  Just because we’ve all heard of him doesn’t make it exciting for me, I’m happy for us to nick players like McGrandles who are “shrewd” signings as the Ipswich Twitter page said.

Left back and the winger/forward next, anything after that is a bonus.
  • Alfie May will sign for our ST addition: Source - Me

  • Angela Lansbury has become underrated as lightweight because of Murder She Wrote but she is a good actress. Can’t see her ousting Forster Caskey in our midfield though.

A clean slate for Charlie Kirk but I'm struggling to see at the moment what his strengths are. His main claim to fame was he was good at giving the pass to an overlapping Pickering at Crewe. He needs to get sharper and work hard as we can't afford any passengers this season.
Cafc gave him a 4 year contract to get the signing done so talent is there but it is latent talent so far and Charlie deserves another chance as the bereavement happened just before he signed and his partner was probably unsettled as she had her dog grooming business up north. She has travelled down with him so a new start again.

Every single players that puts on a Cafc shirt I want to succeed and Charlie is no different. Some players will and some won't.
I really hope this second chance works out for Kirk, partner and all Cafc supporters/critics.

  • Why is aneke scoring 15 wishful thinking? He has done it for us before
Let's compare notes in May 2023, shall we?

Aneke in league one for us:

Apps 47 (most of which are from the bench)
    Goals 19

I don’t have the minutes per goal stats but I can assure anyone it’ll be very good.  If Chuks is fit, Chuks scores, at this level.  It’s only because of his terrible record with injury that we need another forward.
  • We need another striker, possibly two and another left back. I'd be happy with that in all honesty.
I’d add a winger better than Jaiyesimi to the list personally, he was played out of position for the most part last year but I can’t see him playing a major role in a promotion-winning side.
  • In 20-21:
    38 appearances (11 starts + 27 subs) - 1522 minutes. 15 goals.

    Last season:
    9 appearances (4 starts + 5 subs) - 444 minutes. 4 goals.

Total: 19 goals in 1966 minutes. A goal every 103 minutes.
Well this backs up my point and even surprises me.

To add some quantitive info to the numbers, most of his goals come when we are chasing games, which is tougher than hanging onto a lead.

I wonder if he’ll play more central. It wasn’t clear what the formation was in the first half vs Kilmarnock but it could be argued it was a 3-4-2–1 with Aneke and DJ as the 2.
