Thomas wasn't even in the country when either of them were announced was he?

Didn't something similar happen with the signing of Sam Lavelle?

We pretty much had the deal tied up but then kept him waiting as we was enquiring on another target then that fell though so we signed Sam last minute.

It all seems a bit chaotic to me that we might have a agreement with Ben in some sorts but we are still potentially looking for someone higher profile maybe but have Ben if we can't?

Thought it was her Dad who was the fan.
Not sure she’s into football tbh.
  • No deal is done till it’s done. Didn’t the journalist from Swindon say that the assistant coaches where being interviewed on Skype?

Thanks for that exclusive @LouisMend but any information on our latest manager; a cryptic clue in the style of Doctor Raelynn Maloney will do on this grey damp morning.

That’s what I’m guessing or that we haven’t made our mind up yet. And the story has come out because Swindon have leaked it as they want clarity for themselves. And we have done all the negotiation and compensation so that we can move quickly if we do decide to go with Garner

  • Didn’t Cawley think of asking any supplementary questions to clarify things? I think most of us assumed that everything is tied up other than the agreeing compensation with Swindon for the back room staff, and when that has been done he will formally sign the contract.
If he didn’t ask any follow up questions he is not much of a journalist, but maybe the answers would not have got the same response. Now that is what a good journalist would do. One like Cawley.

  • Anyway, this thread summed up in a meme

It will take a lot of time to get Lavelle and Purrington passing out from the back
    Agreed.

Its the old adage 'you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear'.

or trying to get someone cheaper
  • It's probably a two year deal subject to meeting performance based targets, not just a straight two years. Garner has had success with the support of his coaching team - what if they fail  the Skype interview?
  • Doctor Raelynn Maloney is an anagram of Carroty Lemonade nylon.
A new concoction after Sue Perkins canapés, but made with a kind of plastic.

I'm sure on Zoom, Steve Gallen said the St Johnstone captain was the first choice but when he when to Wigan, Sam Lavelle was the next to go on the famous 1to5 list that Steve has.

And people used to moan when Southall's missus would pop up & have a go at the fans.

    Seems like nothing has changed.
  • I think the Sandgaard lot just don’t really understand how the football media works. It’s fair enough to an extent, it runs like an absolute insane asylum. Foreign owners and managers (though typically less so these days) are often surprised by the levels of scrutiny, leaks and focus on the day to day. I imagine the reason they keep piping up is because the reports aren’t technically true; I reckon no deal with Garner is agreed until his coaches are also on board, so as far as they’re concerned the story isn’t accurate. There’s not really any reason to not let the story sit there slightly incorrect though, and it really doesn’t help to have them being so contradictory in public. It’s been long enough that they should just adapt to the media. They suck, it’s annoying, let it go Sandgaards

Why have you just leaked Ben Garner explaining how he wants the players to play.
  • Thought it was her Dad who was the fan.
Not sure she’s into football tbh.
I spoke to her a few years back, she said with her dad and brothers she hadn't got a choice.  Think she follows us vicariously through her family rather than avidly.

  • Bravo @KiwiValley
Quantum mechanics is the meaning of life. The signing of Ben Garner can only happen when no one is watching. This is Heisenberg uncertainty principle meets Schrödinger's cat. Charlton's fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

Relax . It has always happened and also will never happen. I should add that The illusion of self once dispelled  releases all Charlton fans from causality and critically hope. The absence of hope is immortality for it is hope that kills. . Live laugh and be happy also do not.
  • It’s amateurish. If they have an issue with anything Rich puts out they can very easily contact him privately or they can publish a statement via the club setting the record straight if necessary.

This smacks of “we’ll decide what is said and when” and that’s a battle they will never win.

More important, if you’re “still interviewing” five weeks after your own decision to remove the manager I’d suggest you have a bigger problem.
Just suppose an earlier target from the A list that for whatever reason didn’t happen suddenly came back into view as a possibility ? What would you do as the owner, follow that avenue to see where it leads or let it drop. Nothing it would appear has ink on it so until it has either party can walk away. This is without doubt the most important appointment in Charltons recent history. Sandgaard has to get this right or at least be a thorough as is possible. Far too many people are being critical and those self same people will find fault whatever the outcome.
