Conor Washington gone

Yeah fair enough, I assumed, as it was an opinion of why he's been released already.randy andy said:
Who says we didn't? I think the consensus on here is there he'd be an excellent squad player, but he can't be an automatic first choice as he doesn't score enough. Maybe the club offered him a contract valued at a league one squad player and he was either unhappy with the figures (wages and/or length of contract) or unhappy with just being a squad player.shine166 said:Now on the OS, moronic move to not offer him a deal.
We have no idea of the discussions that go on behind closed doors (and we shouldn't know them), so why do people just assume the facts?
I like Conor, he works incredibly hard, but he's not clinical enough if we are aiming for promotion. This squad has just finished mid-table in league one, there are very few who we should be sad to see go.
I look forward to seeing who we sign for cheaper and a better return than 1/3. Also look forward to the signings in the rest of the starting 11 who will contribute goals.
Should be a fun month coming up with our new manager and squad rebuild 👌.
Kinda shit or bust for TS and his decisions.4 -
Washington only works in a front 2 so I’m guessing we will be going back to 4-3-3 next season. If that’s the plan then maybe it’s the right decision3
-
Washington going is a bit odd, always run his nuts off,had a 1 in 3 game conversion rate, sort of player,if I was coming in as manager I would have kept, but there you go.2
-
Time will tell if this was a good decision or not, all depends who we get to replace him.7
-
Liked the player, his attitude and his effort.
But he isn't quite good enough to be a promotion winning striker with his finishing as it is, IMHO. If we want to be challenging next season, then we need a more consistent goalscorer.
Good luck in the future, Connor, and thanks for your efforts.6 -
Like Leko you meanLeuth said:
All this talk of 'effort' I find misleading. You won't find many professional footballers who don't try, who don't run and run. Yes, Washington put in a shift - his replacement will too, and perhaps more subtly too. There's such a thing as timing a runFumbluff said:I’m absolutely certain his replacement will show more effort and score more goals.
Only a fool would think otherwise right?6 -
The Simon Church that played most of his career at a higher level? That Simon Church? That better?SELR_addicks said:The love-in for Washington is strange.
A better Simon Church but we could do a lot lot better.
Washington is a better league 1 player than Church was a championship one......2 -
This season…Washington started 28 games. We picked up 47 points from those games.
Washington didn’t start 18 games. We picked up 12 points from those games.
It’s a mistake letting him go.40 -
I think we need someone better if we want to finish top 6, although I would have had him on the bench.0

So, we need to replace 11 back up goals as well as the elusive main forward.
yeah, cool, cool...2 -

Runs for days, does nothing with the ball when he has it. No quality, just quantity.2 -
That's my point though, if that is the case how do Stockley and Aneke work in that formation? They aren't mobile enough to play as a lone striker, Stockley proved that last season under Adkins.NabySarr said:Washington only works in a front 2 so I’m guessing we will be going back to 4-3-3 next season. Very similar to how I feel about the Jacko sacking. Think we need an upgrade but don’t really trust the owners to recruit better. Have to wait to see who his replacement is.10
-
Is there not a chance he wanted too much money?3
-
Always liked his efforts as he pressured teams with his pace, even if the end product was often left wanting. If we replace him with another pacey 15-20 goal a season striker its good business, if not its atrocious.
Good luck elsewhere Conor. Appreciate your efforts when others seemed less willing or capable.1 -
Like I've said on here multiple times, there isn't 4 strikers out there that we can realistically sign (in wages, transfer fees or availability) that are markedly better than Washington is.Todds_right_hook said:I think we need someone better if we want to finish top 6, although I would have had him on the bench.
No-one is saying he should play every game and be the first name on the team sheet, but he's good enough for a squad place in a team aiming for the top 6, easily.
Watch him sign for someone like Wednesday or Sunderland if they don't go up, and get 15-20 goals next season6 -
You mean when he played for us in the championship? Not league 1?SELR_addicks said:

Fans on here must get done for littering all the time with the amount of toys they throw out their prams....1

2 assists in the league over the entire season.
More big chances missed than scored.
Tried to cause dressing room trouble.
See you later.2 -

Perhaps, whisper it, we're looking for a manager with more than one plan...colthe3rd said:

Would be a novelty, I grant you.1 -

Since when did cold hard facts and serious rationale carry any weight on here with all the pant wetting ninnies, keyboard worriers and shouty bug-eyed nutjobs?
Us being right about CW won't keep us warm in the dim dreary depths of the winter of yet another season in this effing awful division, watching effing awful football from a ragtag rabble of makeweights, crocks, and shirkers being carried by George Dobson, sent out by a manager weighed down by the imminence of his dismissal by Denmark's David Brent tribute act.
Same shit different season is the apex of reasonable expectation.7 -
No connection to anyone in this squad so really not arsed he's gone. Such a frustrating player to watch in front of goal as well.
Definitely some people over reacting to this just to use against TS.12 -

what looks better:
Starting - Stockley (12 goals)+ An other
Bench - Aneke(fit 15 goals) + Washington (11 goals)
Bench - Aneke not fit - Washington (15 goals) + Davison (2 goals)
Starting - Stockley (12 goals)+ An other
Bench - Aneke(fit 15 goals) + Davison (2 goals)
Bench - Aneke not fit - Davison (2 goals) + Kanu ()
Oh no, wait, seen the other threads we´re getting 9 goal Marquis in. Nice.2 -
If the rest of the players last season had shown the same work rate as Washington, there's no way we'd have finished pathetically mid-table.
Also, based on what we've seen from TS' recruitment so far, there is zero chance of us signing a replacement that would be an improvement on Washington's standard (regular international, double figures despite injuries and being part of an awful side).
Like it or not, we're a mid-table League 1 side. Not quite sure who those that think its a good idea letting him go, realistically believe we'll replace him with?? Prepare to be seriously underwhelmed.10 -
We’ll probably sign him back for 300k in August.37

Everything TS does now is a mistake as far as you're concerned. Rumours going around that he was disruptive in the squad.Fanny Fanackapan said:A mistake as far as I'm concerned.
