Worth noting that Russell set his time on C5 tyres, not that any times really give anything away.
Although got to imagine that Mazepin's time is a bit bad - Given that Mick did quite well yesterdayDay three morning done after five red flags:

I expect them to look like this by Bahrain

Sounds like Antonio Giovinazzi will replace Mazepin if that becomes a possibility.
All happening this morning. Guenther Steiner saying he will resolve Uralkali and Mazepin's futures with the team next week, but certainly sounded like both could be dropped. Cited legal issues to work through #F1 #F1Testing

— Chris Medland (@ChrisMedlandF1) February 25, 2022Deals can be broken - just ask Putin. What's Hulkenberg up to these days, or the two old Haas driver - Grosjean and Eriksen. Could they get Kubica from Alfa through the Ferrari connections?0 -
No chance on Kubica, he's funding the whole of Alfa through his sponsor Orlen. No chance on Grosjean or Ericsson either, Roman is happy in Indycar and signed up to a front running team, and will have a chance at the title this year as he's running all the ovals, Ericsson had a breakout year last season and is also in a leading Indycar team in Chip Ganassi.
I think Fittipaldi is the most likely2 -

Least surprising news ever: Mazepin is out. Good riddance.
F1 pales into insignificance in the grand scheme of things, but how sad is it that it took a war to get this useless prick out of F1.

I think they'll be known as Andretti Global by the end of the year anyway, Steiner has come out and said losing the sponsorship makes no difference to the team for this season and it's budget etc but let's be honest losing your title sponsor and a driver tied to it (who probably isn't paid a salary as such but whose wages are covered by the sponsorship) 2 weeks before the start of the season ain't great3

Yeah I don't quite buy the Steiner comments that they'll be fine financially and Gene Haas will just plug the gap from Uralkali going. I would be very very surprised if Michael Andretti isn't making a few phonecalls this week to make a lock stock offer for the entire Haas operation.0

Need a few more teams to go back to 26-Drivers.
Going to be difficult because of the costs to enter, but need less cases like Oscar Piastri from this year - Although still suspect a few more pay drivers would find their way on to the grid.0 -
Cant see Mazepin surviving now... Especially with the stance taken by FIFA and UEFA1

I hear that there are on going negotiations of FI being held in Barranquilla Columbia. I’m in Barrenquilla now and have been to the proposed area. It’s certainly big enough as there are two stretches of a 7k road along Rio Magdelana.0

He’s definitely a useless prick.3 -
Worth noting that this doesn't just apply to Mazepin (if Haas choose to keep him), but the likes of Smolyer (F3) as well.

Max signs a 6 year extension reportedly £50m a season.

Another one kept out of the clutches of Mercedes.
Provided like McLaren, they provide a decent enough car for Max and Lando over the length of the contract.1 -

The options are really thinning out for Mercedes now . Lando locked in until 2025, Leclerc locked in until 2025, now Max off the table (not that I'd have expected Max to Mercedes to ever be a realistic thing)
Unless Ferrari mess up and don't renew Sainz long term then I'm struggling to see a real top notch option.1 -

Worst case they've got to find an option to replace Hamilton with a No.2 driver (Stroll / Ocon, hell they could even bring Bottas back), until someone like Vesti or Antonelli are ready to step up themselves. Almost following Russell's career path.1 -
We are assuming a new talent won't appear.0
