One minute we're signing Defoe because we're worried about relegation next we're helping a team below us by offering a loan.4
-
I think it would yeah, I get your point on shape and system etc. I just think the lad needs his mojo back and start a fresh next season, we need to remember his start to life at charlton was massively hindered by personal issues.Todds_right_hook said:
Would that benefit us long term? It would free up a squad space shorter term allowing us to sign a player that fits our system but we will be getting the same Charlie Kirk back in the summer. He needs to go away and learn some new skillsBR7_addick said:Crewe might as well have him back on loan, they know how to use him and he knows the place.2 -
Perhaps they're using wingbacks as they currently don't have any wingers though?matt88 said:
Crewe play a different shape to when he was there last season and have been using wing-backs. They have made contact with us regarding a loan but it does seem a bit bizarre given I'm not sure how he'd fit into their side at the minute.BR7_addick said:Crewe might as well have him back on loan, they know how to use him and he knows the place.0 -
I'd rather get rid of Kik in a straight swap for a striker.3

He was 16 years old? Harsh to still judge him on that.Maccn05 said:What on earth do we want a 39YO striker who once screwed us.
A Totally pointless, short term, panic signing.I don’t know what this club and fanbase obsession is with ex players?
We need to move on, break the cycle and sign fresh, hungry, young players.5 -
Agree that he needs football. If multiple clubs show interest then I would try and end him to a club that can fit him into our system of play. If low interest, bye Kirk, see you July.BR7_addick said:

There is more chance of me becoming the next PM, than Charlton getting relegatedTodds_right_hook said:
Because it's an unfamiliar role to him and taking a step back (lower league) will help him familiarise himself in the role with a bit less pressure on him.ForeverAddickted said:
Why a League Two team?Todds_right_hook said:
Agreed. I would try and send him to league 2 to a team that plays 3-5-2 with him playing in the Lee roleForeverAddickted said:
Id be disappointed if its more than a loan - Cant write him off that quicklyclive said:Charlton Athletic are prepared to listen to loan offers for Charlie Kirk.
The 24-year-old winger was signed in the summer from Crewe after the Addicks triggered a £500,000 release clause in his contract.

what if we send him to Fleetwood and he keeps them up at our expense3 -
I will be astonished if Defoe comes back here in any capacity , I think if anyone is going to sign him in league one it will be Sunderland, who he has stronger ties / links with, it’s just not going to happen, stand down troops!4

Forgot to add, he got so much verbals from the Charlton crowd down the years, why on earth would he want to come back?0

This. His family and West Ham screwed us, I doubt Jermain Defoe had any real say in the move.Addick_8 said:

I think any short term signing in this window could be the difference between us finishing 18th or 12th…..3

Is this signing happening then or what?0

I am really starting to think that this is it for our club at least for the next 10 or so years. There isn't really any indication that anyone that can afford the expenditure for a serious push and who understands football is interested.10

Things can change quickly. Who knows, we could be pushing for a National League South and FA Trophy double in 5 years time.Wheresmeticket? said:I am really starting to think that this is it for our club at least for the next 10 or so years. Could we not get Juan Mata on loan from Man Utd. He's a good player that rarely plays.2

This. And this is why whoever we sign will give me minimal excitement.cabbles said:I think any short term signing in this window could be the difference between us finishing 18th or 12th…..
Then I see things like Sunderland and Wigan selling out away allocations in record times recently and slip into even further league one depression. What a shower of shite this season is.2 -

One we were linked with a couple of years ago:
Hearts manager Robbie Neilson has confirmed Armand Gnanduillet is in talks with another club.
Reports had claimed Le Mans were in pole position to sign the 29-year-old former Blackpool striker.
The Frenchman has been at Tynecastle for a year, but most of his appearances have come off the bench and he has only scored once this season.
Neilson said: "Armand is speaking to another club. He has been given permission to speak to them. He is trying to get something sorted.
"If he gets something sorted, he goes with our best wishes. If he doesn't, then he will come back in with us."

Don’t you trust Thomas and his astute financial wizardry…i.e spending £300k for somebody that left for free 6 months earlier.Wheresmeticket? said:I am really starting to think that this is it for our club at least for the next 10 or so years. unless TS gets some investment, because he’s rich, but not rich enough, we can’t compete with the likes of Wigan, Sunderland, Ipswich2 -
I welcome Aneke back. I think he’s decent, but questions remain over the length of his contract, his fitness and whether or not he, and the players we have to add around him are capable of promotion.BR7_addick said:

Like you, I see little point in adding this month. If we go long term like we have Aneke, are we just going to be sitting here this time next year realising they’re only as good as what we have now, all fed up? DJ is a good example. He’s okay, but he’s not a player capable of winning you promotion imo. I appreciate he’s being asked to play in a new position, but I just don’t get excited by him. We all know Kirk hasn’t worked out. I would question making Lee permanent based on his contribution. I think Gilbey is a tad overrated by many. CBT was only ever a squad player, yet off the back of one night in Gillingham right in the derge of the Adkins era people seemed to think he was an answer. He’s now contracted to the end of next season.
Washington, works his balls off and is decent, but again, a man you see getting promotion? Stockley I like, but he has a tendancy to lose it and now has this hip niggle.
We go further back in the pitch and we’re inadequately covered for promotion winning talent at wing back if that is our preferred formation under Jackson. Pearce’s time is pretty much up. Famewo is okay, but any deal needs to be weighed up against the sort of wages he thinks he’s worth. All in all, I think it’s best to get a couple of loans or free transfers in until the summer to make sure we stay up, but see Gallen and co planning for a massive assault to do our business early on in the summer, and lots of it.
I am buoyed by the thought of Matthews, Gunter, Kirk, Morgan, Watson etc moved on, and a proper clear out, we need it9 -
The idea is to spend smart on younger talent and sell for profit thus filling the coffers. I believe TS even said he is open to investment but wants to lay his own foundations on how he wants the club ran.Tonbridgeaddick said:

Chucks going and coming back is an easy 300k for B'ham but Chucks decided he wanted out. We were going to spend on a player either way, just happened to be someone who left us earlier on.8 -

Although I just get loled when I question our saviour3 -
It doesn't bother me that we don't have the richest owners, the important thing is that they care about the club and communicate with the fans. Promotion requires a mixture of good investment and luck. There is a correlation between outlay and success, but that isn't always the outcome. This league is littered with small clubs who achieve promotion, and Massive clubs who don't (for a long time). I think we have man in charge that will look after Charlton, success is a bonus.

Agree with this post but will add there were people who didn't want Chuck's to leave and thought we should have pushed the boat out to make him stay (which could have been costly if competing with championship wages), now I suspect it is those same people who on his return are complaining it cost £300k to do so.king addick said:

Maybe, but "well looked after" isn't going to shift any season tickets in the summerThe Prince-e-Paul said:It doesn't bother me that we don't have the richest owners, the important thing is that they care about the club and communicate with the fans. Assuming this is a loan it is precisely what we don't need.15
