The Lost Daughter - hated it. Two hours non-story about a neurotic woman. Escapism it's not.

Watched The Last Duel last night. Had high expectations with the director (Ridley Scott) and cast (Adam Driver & Matt Damon) but parts of it grated. It's the same story told from three different people's point of view, but the differences in the POVs are only subtle, so you end up replaying the same scenes three times and with only very subtle differences, and it's incredibly dull to watch the same scenes over and over again.

It does deal with some interesting themes and the performances are good.
Watched it tonight with no expectations.

Enjoyed the triple viewpoints and a good film to watch.

Guy Ritchies Wrath of Man, starring Jason Statham is now available on Prime. An entertaining watch, even if some of the scenes defy believe.
Wasn’t convinced I’d like this but it’s a good watch.

Another vote for Don't Look Up. My wife and me really enjoyed it.

I agree it was 20 minutes too long. It's a great cast with some very strong characters. Loved the Cate Blanchette pee take of all those horrendous day time talk show hosts (tbf I'm mildly in love with Cate Blanchett full stop). The Jonah Hill character got some great lines and Mark Rylance's weirdness was good fun. I wonder if Elon Musk has seen it?

I wasn't convinced by the whole Timotee Chalamet story at all though and they could easily have dropped that for me, but I suppose they wanted to drop in a hot, young actor for a different audience.
Slightly too long but the cast saved it.

Watched Man on a Ledge for the first time in ages … still a good film despite knowing the twists.
  • Red notice on Netflix.
A good bit of fun and Ryan Reynolds character made me lol (proper out loud) several times 👍

Caught Don't Look Up yesterday, and to be honest, it grated from beginning to end. There wasn't a sigle character I didn't find effortlessly irritating, from DiCaprio offering pointless science when all he needed to do was explain what the comet meant, to the talk show hostess, and the just numbing imbecility of everyone who had better things to do than deal with what was coming. I enjoyed the ending, but that simply turned the rest into an overlong shaggy dog story. I really wanted to like this more but when the characters are all annoying, that ain't gonna happen.

They most definitely were. Still doesn't change the fact that it was a big ol' bag-o-shite.

I didn’t hate it . I thought Mark Rylance was great as was Meryl Streep but as usual it suffers because it’s half an hour too long and the novelty has long worn off by the time it got to the end .

Saw West Side Story last night. I’m not a huge musical fan, but I thought it was incredible. Assume it will do very well at the Oscars.
Caught this earlier this afternoon. Also thought it was terrific. Fantastic set pieces, brilliant sets and cinematography and the score is of course out of this world. One of those films you'd happily watch again quite quickly afterwards because there's so much going on you're bound to have missed something.

I loved it. Better than the original for me.

I'm reserving judgement on that until I've seen both again but my wife was definitely of the same view as yourself.

I watched the original again the other day and it looks very wooden and stilted in comparison. The casting is better in the new version.

The new Ghostbusters was pretty good. Plenty of nostalgia and decent acting from the kids.

I loved it absolutely loved it. Gets things absolutely bang on

I was an enormous fan of the original film and how the director bought it into modern Times was very clever and it may be because I was at the beginning of covid I nearly fell to pieces with the ending!

Ok, so I have a personal interest in this one, so maybe slightly biased.

Redemption of a Rogue on Netflix now.

Our second cousin, Olivia Smith, was the casting coordinator on it.

Its an Irish, catholic, love story with all that goes with it in an awful town in Co Cavan (of which there are many).

Slightly bonkers, with a decent soundtrack impo.

    Enjoy 💚
