Next Manager??

I really want Jackson, actually who ever is the manager, to be here a long time and be successful. To be honest I have no idea if he will do a good job or not.ForeverAddickted said:
Think its just the concern what with Jackson having been given the task of organising set pieces, the defence.Pelling1993 said:I'm curious as to why the majority of people think Jackson will be so bad?
If he's the sole reason for those two things being bad this season then yeah it might not be an improvement.
But we equally dont know if he's just relaying Adkins instructions.
But I have my doubts though and a nagging feeling that he is part of, not necessarily a course of, a continuing problem.
He has either been the club captain or on the coaching staff under a lot of managers and every single one of them, since Riga left the 1st time, has had a spell when there has been an obvious lack of effort, application and organisation.
Even if you ignore the obvious dross and just focus on the last 3 managers, 2 jumped before they were pushed, it has become a pattern.
I know it's not a popular suggestion but I think it needs considering. I would also ask the same questions of Pearce.
They may well not be the cause of any of it but as "locker room leaders" they have not been able to prevent it either.1

I thought there was someone very highly rated at Chelsea who I think Fleetwood wanted recently.MarcusH26 said:If we're looking at guys who are managing U23 sides , Forest's U23s are managed by Andy Reid....
Andy Myers (U23 Manager) is the only name I can find and it doesnt ring a bell

I think it's as much the fact we may need a complete freshen up and new ideas than any particular opinion of Jackson, but I would also play devil's advocate slightly and say what has he really done that make people think he'll be good?Pelling1993 said:I'm curious as to why the majority of people think Jackson will be so bad?1

Oh I remember this , think he's got promoted under Tuchel so probably not a contender , but fits the right kind of mould.1

I think the thing everyone needs to remember is that all managers are, essentially, shit. They literally all get sacked eventually when the things that were working for them stop working. Sometimes because they worked with a different group of people, sometimes because they get stale, or sometimes genuinely because you stop letting them have Nando's. You can look at just about any manager in the world, especially at our level, and find a manager who did well somewhere and failed elsewhere, whose ideas will work for someone else but not us, or the reverse. Basically at this point hiring a manager in football is hoping. Fingers crossed lads

To be fair, at this level they sometimes do well for 2 or 3 years and then get a better job that they then eventually fail at.Garrymanilow said:I think the thing everyone needs to remember is that all managers are, essentially, shit. Exactly, and that's what we need to hope happens for us. The last two managers who got us promoted didn't have a minute's managerial experience between them beyond some caretaker matches when their infinitely more experienced bosses got sacked for being rubbish. I've givne up on looking at managerial records and past successes, I'm just praying nowNorth Lower Neil said:

This is exactly it. 'Good' managers, particularly in the lower leagues, have a bright patch and eventually go back to being useless. Warnock is the only non Prem manager I can think of right now who has been consistently successful.Garrymanilow said:I think the thing everyone needs to remember is that all managers are, essentially, shit. You also have to factor in that some jobs, at some times, you have to be monumentally awful to fail and the same job at a different time you would have to be the best manager ever to not fail.Garrymanilow said:

The last two times Jacko got the job could be both......0

Doing well at Sutton so far. I think its time we look at managers doing well in the lower leagues. Not big names who were good managers 5 years ago etc.

Will back Jacko of course. However I do think this is a bit of a cop out. Easy option, but I guess Jacko only really has the job to lose for now.Importantly the bit behind the scenes needs sorting out.The one club format of play, the black box, the recruitment committee and all these specialised heads of departments all needs revisiting and frankly scrapping until such time as the first team footballing side is sorted out in a professional manner.
I said it early on, focus purely on getting the first team performing and the rest can all come later and I'd stand by that.Good luck to Jacko, someone who I really like, however I think this could be a missed opportunity to clear the decks for a fresh start.2

Have we ever, well in the last 40 years, appointed a manager who fitted that description? You could lossly apply it to Adkins, at a stretch.charltonman2016 said:Richard J said:Matt Gray at Sutton being mentioned by Football Insider as a top candidate.

Managers that are Jackos age start tend to start in Leagues 1 & 2.....Russell Martin, Ryan Lowe, Michael Duff, Ian Evatt etc.
We are a league 1 team so we are on the platform for managers of that age to kick start there career...the onus is on JJ to do a good job and propel himself into the running for this job or a managers job elsewhere if need be.
Simple fact is we are nothing special to command the interest of the better managers out there combined with our league position and if it wasnt Jacko who gets it full time, it will be another manager with some or little experience.
Its the logical choice and a good one. Good luck to JJ & JE.0

I’d love to know how the black box came up with Harry Arter and Ronnie Schwartz1

How many ex players are now managers, assistants or coaches?
 Didn’t know about Andy Reid
 Jorge Costa
 JJ (the other one)
 Shaun Bartlett
 Claus Jensen
 No doubt plenty more0

Probably should’ve posted it here but I just put on the other thread that it’s great to potentially get an upcoming coach/manager with good potential, but we may already have that in Jackson, so we must give him a chance, he’s earned it4

Aren't the majority of league one managers just cheap and the clubs the younger ones manage generally skint?king addick said:Managers that are Jackos age start tend to start in Leagues 1 & 2.....Russell Martin, Ryan Lowe, Michael Duff, Ian Evatt etc.

You look at the "big jobs" that come up in league 1 that's not the profile most clubs go for out of choice. The exception being Richardson at Wigan but they were very skint when he got the job.
When us, Ipswich, Sunderland and Pompey changed manager last season none of them were 1st appointments. Or cheap.0

If Jackson does get the gig on a permanent basis I should imagine he will bring a first team coach in - Damien Matthew back maybe?2

I wouldnt be opposed to a Danish Manager provided they're not some completely unknown... e.g. Got to remember that Thomas Frank was Manager of Brondby for three years before he came over to England.
Emma Hayes, maybe - I get why she'd find a League One team insulting but unfortunately there hasnt been a Female Manager in the Mens game, it might be wrong but it does feel like she'd need to prove herself first a little bit... Trouble is its a big risk, and dont think we can overly afford that big of a risk at the moment.1

I think they’d see that as an insult, which is kind of hilarious. I get that they’re at the top of the women’s game, but it really is chalk and cheese.ForeverAddickted said:
Yeah I only mentioned her, or even Karen Carney as they'd been mentioned on here recently.Elthamaddick said:

Think for those two, a team like Oxford or Milton Keynes would be ideal for them - I feel that they are the sort of club at this level who wont always fight for promotion, but if they're ran properly should never be at threat of going down.
I’d love to see what Emma Hayes could do at a club in League 2.0

Harris, I’m with you. A female manager, I’m not sure what my thoughts would be, not that it would happen.DOUCHER said:

Jackson is our manager. For that to change he has to fail. In that respect he’s in a position no different to any other manager.4
-
A few being linked but it's Jackson's to lose really.

Not much noise about Laudrup this time.0

Some really left field people being linked!Especially as Jackson has effectively been told it’s his job to lose- why would he have a solid list of people to come in?The names linked are all ‘ones for the future’ which is promising, but surely a kick in the gonads for the ones like euell/Jackson/u23s coach who have been promised/linked with the future jobs0
