  • 5 or 6 of that starting XI get in today’s team, IMO, and most of that bench is better than we had on offer to us today as well.
And it was a cup game against a non league side so no surprise there were 2 or 3 "fringe" players in there.
  • It’s a minor thing but the bloke who runs the  twitter feed is unbelievably tedious.
Totally agree. We could have been 5 down before they scored. 4 great saves from MacGillivray plus they hit the bar.

In reply we didnt test Amos once.

In goal attempts it was about as one sided as you could get.
  • Half you lot saying I told you so are the same that were spunking over Adkins appointment.

    its fucking embarrassing
  • Haven't read another post other than Golfaddick's posts above.

Without Chuks Aneke this team have no goals from open play in them. I said this before the Sheff Wed game that I just couldn't see us scoring in August from open play because we would go 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 and we would be impotent and would create so few chances. I was also wildly optimistic in saying we could well draw all our matches in August !

If you have no goals in your midfield, and your wingers don't score too often, and Stockley has only one goal with his feet. How on earth do we score ? Jayden's head I assume.

Inniss is now blocked on set pieces. Morgan is erratic but did hit some good balls in from corners and free kicks as well as the poor or over hit. If we can't score from set pieces we are screwed.

Mac had a good day in goal with 5 cracking saves.

The scary thing was for large parts of the game until DJ and Dobson went off we played ok without looking like scoring obviously.

21st in League1 is embarrassing, and the 9k season ticket holders deserve better.
Goals win matches and this is the least goals I have ever seen in a Squad of 18 at home in my 1000 odd matches I have seen at the valley.

Not being Smug, ( only slightly !) but I decided against a season ticket, as just wasn't convinced we would replace Chuks Aneke who scored a goal every 100 minutes last season.

I have an alternative football fix now lower down the pyramid, which is just more fun, and they are set up with two strikers and wing backs, plus goal scoring Midfielders.
Win 3-2 or 4-1 and crazy things like that.

I will be Charlton till I die, as they are my first love but as the betting advert said:
    When the fun stops.........

Insomnia is the reason I'm posting at 3am !
Instead of sheep, try counting misplaced passes....should do the trick.

3am was when I got to bed after watching that drivel....
  • I seem to remember that, a few years ago, someone on here posted a hypothetical question: Would we take playing in League 2 if it meant Roland had left the club.
I think we’re about to find out.
Have to say, Sandgaard’s tweet, post match, has pissed me off a tad.
Not on twitter what did he say ?
  • I agree with you and Golfie and others, the team as it stands has proved to not be good enough.

Everyone could look at the numbers and see how players had performed in the past but that’s not always the best indicator of future performance.

I was willing to wait a few games to see how we got on before sticking the boot in and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that approach.

Well done on calling it right re: goal threat before this season started. What I will say to that is that many of the same people were saying the same stuff last summer and we turned out to be one of the best goalscoring teams.
    & we haven't replaced a 15 goal striker

What are the odds on Adkins walking within 30 days of the window closing? Pretty high I reckon

    Absolutely spot on.

I have worked for some great leaders in my time and their number one similarity was that they appointed good people into a proper structure and trusted them to do their jobs.

Funnily enough, I am working on a short term contract right now where the MD positions himself as the “Celebrity CEO” and micro manages everything and, as a result, the place is a fucking shambles and there are people getting paid $200,000 to delegate everything back to him.

Sandgaard has zero experience in football, none, nada, rien, zilch, fuck all - so how can he expect to run the club?

If I bought a a vineyard tomorrow I wouldn’t appoint myself as CEO, no matter how much I may want to, because I know nothing about the wine industry in the same way Sandgaard knows nothing about the football industry.
@TelMc32 & I have a mate who has worked in football all his career, various positions such as FD, CEO & MD. He was out of work last year for a short time, he approached TS via LinkedIn to introduce himself a couple of times. TS never replied, so from that I can only think that TS doesn’t want or believe he needs someone at the club to run it for him.

To take anything from that though, we would have to know who your mate is. I would imagine a CEO job is often advertised or head hunted.
  • My first game was in 1984 ….. I’m sure someone will be able to confirm/ deny. Will today be the lowest position Charlton have been in during my supporting years …..

(Not) holding my breath for the last few days of the transfer window

Don’t believe the players deserved to be booed off yesterday. Tuesday was different as they clearly collapsed when we 1-1. Don’t think they could have done anything more against clearly better organised and quality team. Problem is we never looked like scoring. Full backs and the midfield three are the concern.

Really need to go and get some quality in those positions. Been outclassed three games in a row now.

Have to disagree on that one, I thought Sheff Weds was our best game so far. This was a moderate improvement on the last two aways, but it wasn't harsh on us at all, Wigan could have been 3 nil up at half time. If we nicked a draw it wouldn't have been deserved. I count 6 maybe 7 shots on target so far across all of our games this season? Thats appalling.
Not 3. Would have taken a pretty poor keeper to not have stopped at least two of those. It’s our lack of shots on target that’s most worrying for me.

He’s been at Everton, Hull, Coventry, Derby, Shef Utd, Drogheda, Dundee Utd and now  CEO at Wigan.

Yes, if you are creating chances and missing them, it is a concern but not half as concerning as not creating them. What we have to think about was not so much yesterday, but Oxford had a defensive crisis before our game and MK Dons had looked dodgy defensively. But we hardly troubled them.

We have played some good L1 sides, but what happens when the crap ones come to the Valley. They will defend deep and require us to break them down. I'm not looking forward to that.

Saying this to my Dad yesterday when we dominated the ball and tempo. Was counting the phases of play and asking when are we actually meant to play the killer ball in our move.
  • Calm down- see the long term plan. The deal Thomas has is pay Roland big money when in Premier League. Thus to keep his money safe he needs to get us in the Conference first..
  • This is the team that put 6 past Plymouth a mere 4 months ago. Watson played the whole game and 7 out of the 16 players used played yesterday. Main difference is that 4 of the goals were scored by Gilbey, Aneke, Millar and JFC (2 injured and 2 gone). 3 out of 4 assists were from players on the pitch yesterday (Matthews, Stockley, DJ) with only Pratley missing.

Fair enough. That ought to require a reply.

How about if the people saying I told you so think this is less to do with Adkins and more to do with him being totally and utterly shafted by the owner in this transfer window?

We could have appointed Pep Guardiola and I would have spunked harder than a 16 year old losing his virginity to Michelle Keegan.

The predictions of being in the shit stemmed from the evidence that the promises of a fully refreshed squad were not happening and that’s been clear for at least a month and a half. As soon as Clare and Dobson were unveiled as our Hollands and Stephens / Bielik and Cullen we could have had Pep managing us and we still would have been fucked.
  • TS and Nads have got a week or so to get a decent strike partner for JS, otherwise we are going to be kicking around the bottom six this season.
  • I don't blame Adkins for this shitshow.

He stood on the pitch at the end of last season & said 'that'll be us next year' when Hull were celebrating.

I think he genuinely thought it at the time. I believe the budget he was promised at the time has been stripped back.

Sandgaard, Roddy & maybe even Gallen have seriously let Adkins down in my opinion
Maybe but if the best you can come up with is to lump it up there and get two not very good runners to feed off that you bring it on yourself a little
