We’re missing Gilbey as the number 10 pulling strings and putting Stockley through. Morgan hasn’t been able to do that. Which leaves us only the wings and that’s not enough. Problem is, he’s not fit and I assume it’ll be a while before he’s back and even longer before he finds form.

We also need a left back, which I assume they’re waiting on a loanee, as per last year.

Those two immediately, at the very least, will give us a lot more going forward and something close to an attacking threat.

Even then, is Dobson and Morgan enough in front of the back line? Maybe, maybe not.

Club needs a total reboot - it's too late for this season. If we avoid a relegation then great, but TS needs to invest or sell up to anyone stupid enough to buy us

Just out of interest, how many players short do people think we are of being a decent side for this division
After Sheff Wed, I said 3-4.

After Oxford, it was more like 4-5.

After MK, it seemed to be 5-6.

    After today, I’m thinking 7-8.
Thank you!  I know it must be difficult to admit, but we are just getting worse
No I’m fine with it. Don’t feel like I’m admitting anything.

Always best to go into the season with an open mind and trusting the people at the club have got it right, in contrast to the criticism and negativity.

Unfortunately the season is looking very bleak from where I’m sitting.
    I'm just a realist
And realistically we are proper shit
    That’s not realism.

Imagine losing 2-0 at home in the 3rd division and the scoreline, given the brilliant saves our ‘keeper made, basically flatters us.

Yes you continue to be right.
    I continue to be wrong.

    And repeat.

Adkins isn’t blameless in the last 5 games. Yes the team isn’t great but his tactics, approach and game management leave a lot to be desired.
It’s like no one understands how important it is that you have control of the midfield. If your midfield is strong you will create chances for yourself and snuff out chances for the opposition before they make it as far as your back line. The way we set up in the early matches we were too open in midfield. Today we were more compact but then gave up all that control willingly. As soon as Dobson went off we looked like we would concede. But we never looked more likely to score.

We simply do not have the players to play 442 and there’s a reason hardly anyone else does these days - because it’s too much work for the midfield.

Bowyer favoured the diamond for that reason, you can play 2 up top but still be compact in midfield. You still need good players in the “wide” midfield positions though and you need full backs who can overlap so I don’t think we can play that way either anymore.

I don’t know what the solution is. This squad has little to no flexibility in it. The signings we’ve made are aimed at playing 433 and very few of the squad are versatile and able to play a different role. If we are going to play 433 then they need to be much better drilled, as I don’t think any of the players looks particularly comfortable with what they are doing right now.

Need some back to basics coaching.

Adkins said in his interview that we didn’t test Amos enough…

Did we test him at all?

I think I could count our shots on target from open play this season on one hand!

I don't blame Adkins for this shitshow.

He stood on the pitch at the end of last season & said 'that'll be us next year' when Hull were celebrating.

I think he genuinely thought it at the time. I believe the budget he was promised at the time has been stripped back.

Sandgaard, Roddy & maybe even Gallen have seriously let Adkins down in my opinion
Very hard to prove. If you’re right he has every right to walk out before his reputation is damaged.

Odd that if Kirk had somehow scuffed that chance into the goal instead of wide (and we’d hung on) we’d be saying our season had started. Players would have been clapped off the pitch etc. Instead it’s the obvious doom and gloom.
Big ‘if’ of course. Especially the hanging on bit.

Left on 80 as I have to get to work at 7, and I live between basingstoke and Newbury ....and before the usual numpties question it I worked nights last night.....that was grim ...I have seen 3 games this season,  Wimbledon, oxford and today.   Can anyone tell me what Dobson brings to the party he is awful.

The rest not better....no midfield or any threat up top,  long season beckons...

It isn't him putting Stockley through that we miss. We miss him putting himself through thinking if you are going to deprive Stockley the space, I'll take it. It is what the Wigan midfielders did when they attacked. It is why we create so little.

I seem to remember that, a few years ago, someone on here posted a hypothetical question: Would we take playing in League 2 if it meant Roland had left the club.
I think we’re about to find out.
Have to say, Sandgaard’s tweet, post match, has pissed me off a tad.

Will post later once I'm home.

But now you have to believe that I have been right all along.

Broken clock is right twice a day
Golfie has been right a lot more than that, some people on here refuse to see the shit even when it is staring them in the eyes.
    I didn’t mean twice literally.

Point is if you keep banging on the same point over an extended period (of years), you will eventually turn out to be right occasionally.

There is no magic insight being provided, just negativity that has turned out to be on the money this time.

If we dont get some decent signings in I think Adkins will walk. He looked deflated today for the 1st time, yes he can be blamed for tactics but there are too many players just not good enough. If it is that TS is trying to do things on a reduced budget I'm pretty sure today will have shown him that isnt going to work. Watson is only here as his contract extension was activated and should be nowhere near starting. Morgan is like a rabbit in the headlights and again should be nowhere near the squad. The plus side is if we can get a decent LB, DM and CM we would do so much better

I'm still thinking .. it's only the start of the season AND I must NOT lose heart just yet  .. despite the fact that I have absolutely no faith in either the owner or the manager AND I am concerned that we are stuck with both for a long time

From last season, we have lost:

    Our Manager
    Amos
    Doughty
    Maatsen
    Miller
    Chuks
    Shinnie

    To name a few

Has what we have brought in been better than what went out?

Go back a little further and you will all see why our club has been in constant decline

the naivety from our backroom staff to think they could replace Aneke and not even at least bringing in some top flight loans

You have spelt finger wrong mate
  • A far weaker squad in an arguably tougher league than last season.

Better get used to it because can't see how we will be anywhere competing for top six based on what's played out so far.

Don't have enough quality to seriously challenge at this level.

The fact we are still playing an entirely inadequate right back at left back is a huge red flag.

Bright in spells but generally devoid of ideas. Wigan  looked more up for it in the latter stages and even racing for the ball when 1 nil up late on when it should have been other way round.

Some serious miscalculations with the strategy/ recruitment this term because if this is the game plan then we're bang in trouble.

Stop playing that poxy fucking song as well...it's a piss take with the team in the state it is.

One point in 12 and in the relegation zone.

    Shit.

Albie is just not good enough, wherever he plays in the team. I have no problem going 442, but to do it with Morgan and Watson in the center was suicidal, neither are mobile nor quick enough. Full backs are totally not working, one winger DJ, doesn’t help Stockley  when not in possession and no midfielder is interested in joining the attack let alone try and shoot. That side is a disaster waiting to happen at the moment. We need a cm desperately, a left back a striker to play along side stockley. By the way Washington has been dog shot aswell. We are so bad at the moment I just can’t believe it!!!.

We hoped, I hoped, that Morgan was ready. We now know he isn't. He needs to be on the bench. His time may come but it isn't now. Watson shouldn't be starting either although he was ok today. Two midfielders needed who know where the goal is, a decent delivery and one of them with a decent shot. Then what we have won't seem so bad.

Thought the overall performance was lacklustre and the final ball woeful

Did I hear Minto right re' - it looked like 2 very good League 1 sides?
