On my way home. Mrs Stig just told me she spent the evening watching Birdbox. 'That's funny love' I said 'I feel like I've just watching the stage show of it'.
Serious thoughts on the match to come. At the moment I've a horrible feeling I'm going to regret getting my season ticket back.3 -

Fuck me, I know these people have done their badges and have experience but it’s so frustrating.Said in the match thread,he's much the same on his right.Fella needs a 20M No fly zone where no opposition player can go near him.Get within the zone and he shits himself. One of THE worst ball players I've seen in a Charlton shirt.Quite how he's managed to get so many international caps f******g mystifies me!!0

My only game so far this reason was this time last week in the League Cup, I’ve got it all to look forward to on Saturday by the sounds of it.
I can completely get the anger and frustration at what appear to be 3 dire performances. The team was weak last season and the league was just as weak. We needed an absolute refresh and we haven’t had that.It looks unlikely that based on this current team/squad, even with 5/6 more players of the ilk we’re likely to get, we’ll be challenging for promotion. Never say never, but when we’ve got people scratching for crumbs saying it will be okay when we get Gilbey and JFC back, or, we should’ve kept Shinnie, you know you’re desperate
The one thing I can’t get my head around is the gradual anger directed at TS. He’s made some mistakes, said things that he probably shouldn’t have and there’s lots up to debate re: how he’s running the club etc etc. however, seeing some of the comments on Twitter and here about pulling his finger out, put your money where your mouth is etc. bloody hell, we’re like a bunch of spoilt little brats that just expect this guy to plough millions into the squad and we’ll sign 12/13 players. I would love that. I would love for us to be signing as many players have Ipswich have, but football, like life isn’t that simple. TS is putting his money where his mouth is. It’s costing him personally every single month. We don’t have a divine right to have better players or expect anything more than what we’ve got.
He’s literally been in charge over a year, most of that in Covid. No to very little income. How many other benefactors were lining up to run this loss making league one football club last summer when we were on the brink.I get his personality and presence might wind people up, his actions and words aren’t always the best way, but have a word with yourselves. We’ve gone from being on the brink of existence to putting out tweets where we tell him how much to spend and on who and it’s that simple????
He may get it catastrophically wrong on the playing side with regards the players purchased, and it might not be that what he thought was a decent budget is enough to get us the quality we need, but I think people just need to show a bit more respect.
I’m not arguing with anyone’s viewpoint on how crap we look, I’ve had many a rant at how shit we are over the years. I just can’t get my head around how quickly some of us seem to be up TS’ backside when the bloke is pretty much keeping us breathing financially19 -

Yep considering we're only in the second week of august the thought of exercising my season ticket for next 9 or so months isn't filling me with the usual sense of optimism.
In fact if we don't pull out some left field (and left back) signings pretty quick I expect the Covered End will resemble something like this by mid September....

Who was it that claimed we'd score more goal this year than last?
Step forward sir, I'd like to bet everything I own including my flat on the fact that we won't get anywhere fucking near0 -
He keeps talking about honest, hard working players. Would rather get some lazy liars that are better at winning football matches.18

Worst start in most of our fans' lifetime1 -

Before the season no one would grumble at the quality of player they have bought in, as well as the experience of the manager - but currently they find themselves in the exact same situation as us.
You have to feel they have more chance of turning it around then us, but I guess we always have more leeway to improve our squad more so (if we start to being in quality players).I can.
Glass is either half empty or half full.
Like last year none of the players individually are awful (Gunter playing at left back aside) the balance in midfield is wrong (Adkins got that right 1st time after Bowyer got it wrong for 4 months). Honestly I believe 1 or 2 more "best" players would transform this team. We need more depth as well, don't get me wrong.
We played some nice stuff, on the floor, until they equalised. Like I said after the Oxford game the lower the confidence gets the longer the ball goes. It's just like Parkinson's team that got relegated from the championship. Best team until they score then it all falls to pieces.
Funny how good Amos, Gilbey, JFC and Aneke are now. All 4 would massively improve us but 3 of them were hammered last year despite being our 3 best players.5 -

MuttleyCAFC said:I feared this a couple of months ago. Need to go 4-4-2 and be a bit more direct. Midfield hasn't got the creativity or nouse. Bypass them. We need a pacey or tall centre forward and a few more players who know where the goal is.At least this week we looked better for spells. Jaiyesimi and Clare upped their games and got on the ball a lot more (not hard). Morgan as ever tried so hard but couldn’t quite pull it all together (but great free kick for the goal).
But at the end of the day, we still have a club, and something to moan about other than spivs, weirdos, Aussies and criminals.1 -

Nicholas said:Every season is exactly the same on here and with social media-players are either fantastic or utter shite after playing about 10 minutes and, if we win the first two games, we’re winning the league, if we lose the first couple we’re heading for relegation.I can understand people having a few concerns but some of these reactions are a tad premature especially when you look where we’ve come from…2

I know gents, it was a bit tongue in cheek. Adkins is still in credit with me so far. More to this than it being down to Adkins ballsing up the summer transfer window unfortunately I think and he's being diplomatic about the complete anticlimax of our squad going into this campaign thus far.
Would love to know what his genuine view on it is i.e. whether he is fully aware of this from day one or if goalposts have shifted.
Surely he's wise enough about the game to have identified we are massively under resourced.
And surely now being desperate for bodies and quality makes it a seller's market so we've lost any assumed brinkmanship as other clubs will know we can't afford to play blink first games any longer unless we are prepared to write off another season/ wait until january to build a squad.
If the strategy is just to tick over in league one then so be it but let's stop pretending it's anything else if so please and at least we can accept it and get on with it.1 -

I've just been able to get 20/1 for us to win the league.
On a positive note, I spoke to dad after the game. In his 70+ years watching our beloved team he was able to offer calming words of encouragement. He said that "at least we have a club to support and stability. That is more important than success or failure on th pitch."
I really wanted to say "but you don't understand." Clearly he does and is able to take a much more measured view than I.2 -

Just got home. That was awful. The midfield 3 of Morgan, Clare and Dobson is not working at present. If we have to rely on them it will be a long hard season. We can’t control the game with them 3 or build anything so end up going long to stockley who is isolated.Only stockley and DJ can be happy with themselves tonight’s performance.I hope the next couple of weeks we get what we need because we are lacking so much based on last 2 games.13

seth plum said:Terrible result, bad injuries, but I actually thought it was the best we played in our four games so far. Not that that's saying much.
There are definitely some positives to take away. But far more negatives I'm afraid. That's not the worst Charlton game I've ever seen, but it was certainly one of the most pathetic performances. Those MK players must be laughing at how predictable every move we made in the 2nd half was.
