Very sad news to hear Paul Mariner has passed away at just 68
Will never forget the goal for England that qualified us for the World Cup in 82? Came off his shin against Hungary from memory.
Let's hope the boys can do it for him tomorrow.

Sad news to start what hopefully will be a great weekend for English football. Very good player indeed and part of one of the first England teams I remember as a kid.

Remember him at promotion rivals Plymouth with his strike partner Rafferty back in 1974/75, destined for bigger things with Ipswich and England.

Truly shocking news. A footballing icon of his day. He's the first player I think of when the subject of that great Ipswich team of the early 80s is mentioned.
Rest in peace and rise in glory.1 -

RIP Paul....a gifted player...I saw him play for Ipswich against Charlton (in an FA Cup match I believe) at Portman Road, he was a major difference between the two teams.
My condolences to his family and friends....God Bless you Paul.2 -

That's sad news. I remember when I was really young and playing in school boy or scout teams we used to call glancing headers/flicks off the back of the head 'Mariner's'. RIP.1
