Watched the game (at home) with my own daughter who is probably a couple of years younger, and pretty obvious the shoe could have been on the other foot.
The comments from a couple of teenage wrong’uns on Twitter are clearly well over the line and the kids involved should be getting a doorstep visit from the local police IMO.2 -

Southgate got that spot on, apart from the first 10 minutes England were brilliant. The way we controlled the tempo from the back and only went forward when the Germans over committed. Outstanding.
Not only 4 clean sheets but apart from Muller's I don't think we have conceded a proper chance in 4 games.
I think some people need to get their history books out and look how other teams have won tournaments in the past. Because with one or two standout exceptions it's been by playing like we are. Brazil in 1970 was over 50 years ago and I don't think there has been anything like it since?
Back to 433 in Rome, I would imagine and even after last night Southgate will get pelters for his selection. I fancy he will get it spot on, again.1 -

And abusing Sterling, the man who inspired us to a historic win and who has propelled us through the tournament with his goals? Christ.
I know that some of a particular political persuasion will never be happy when England do well, and that there are a sizeable portion of folk in the Celtic nations that hate us too (as well as home grown racists who give Stirling and other black players grief whatever the do), but surely we are at a point where we can no longer allow the running sore that is Twitter to give cowards a licence to anonymously spread hate at will.
As I have said before, I have no idea why a verified account system has not been introduced so that those in the public eye (and anyone else for that matter) can choose to only receive tweets from traceable accounts. Given the demonstrable stupidity of the human race, it would probably not stop all the abuse, but at least it would make hateful cowards responsible for their actions.
Fuck Twitter. I detest it. Bill Hicks was right; we're just a virus with shoes.9 -

You youngsters enjoy the victory but us veterans lived the pain.I won't disagree. I'll add 1970 as well because I'm really old!Lots of ghosts exorcised yesterday.
How did so many German fans attend the match. Do they live in the UK?0 -
Yes, Greenhithe - Pandora's box is a very apt analogy.
Social media just seems like a tool to enable humans to wage war on each other on a personal level, the magnitude of which was not possible before.
If this is progress, stop the ride - I want to get off.0 -

There is no point criticising Southgate, he isn't going to change but I would argue he got away with it a bit yesterday. Fortunately Germany are not that good, but we can expect to face a team that isn't that good all the way to the final now. I think the fans calling for Grealish to start can point to the fact that we looked far more dangerous when he came on! I do hope Southgate can see it is worth starting him.0

The laughing at a child crying was not reserved for them though. It was in a lot of pubs around the country, not just twitter. There's a huge gulf between getting a smidge of enjoyment - come on, we all thoroughly enjoyed that to the fullest - and that sort of obnoxious behaviour. Some people are just unbearable when they win.3 - Sponsored links:

For those of you who were determined to criticise England/Southgate at every move, hope you’re feeling as embarrassed as you should be.
@paulbaconsarnie and @ThreadKiller were there as well
proper twilight zone down there1 -

I love a bit of schadenfreude. I wonder if the Germans have a word for it.

The more I think about it the more I think Southgates decision to keep Kane on the pitch could be the pivotal moment for us in this tournament.
Plenty of people,me included thought he just wasn't doing it and quite frankly having a mare. When he went down clutching his thigh it looked like a cry for help to me and he wanted out.
As he walked back and gave GS the thumbs up I thought he lacked the balls to take him off. But that reassurance from GS seemed to spur Kane on and he was like a different player after.
If you take your captain and main goal threat off, a sense of panic could well have filtered it's way through the side.
We could well be out today.
Who knows how Kane will be from now on? but it wouldn't surprise me to see him turn the next few games on their heads.
Here's hoping!As I said, a pivotal moment for me.1 -

Look at our squad depth it's ridiculous. A starting XI made up from the players who didn't start with last night's formation. I couldn't even fit in Rashford or Bellingham!
We certainly have the most depth left in the tournament and if we go all the way that should pay off. Players like Rashford, Foden, Sancho will be fresh in the semis and finals.7 -

Be interesting to see how Southgate approaches this game against Ukraine
Foden, Maguire, Rice and Phillips are all on single yellow cards
Do you rest them for Ukraine as bookings get wiped clear after the QFs or does he take the risk?
Certainly wont be surprised to see Henderson for one of Rice / Phillips for that reason6 -
Dont the yellow cards get wiped now ?0
-
He could quite easily rest Rice and Philips for Henderson and Bellingham and it would barely weaken the side. Similarly Mings could come back in for Maguire with significantly weakening the side.0

Then Southgate should rotate no point in risking suspensions I think we will have enough to beat Ukraine whoever he starts. Denmark however another matter I have a feeling the Eriksen situation has galvanised them and it just might be written in the stars2

Ukraine should be beatable, but do you really want to risk the defence0
