Lol, After only scoring 4 goals in 4 games I think it’s plain to see the way we set up we will not smash anyone. Defensive, cautious and patient seems to be the plan of choice and it seems to be working.

    I’d take 3 scrappy 1 0 wins in our next 3 games

100%, it wasn’t a criticism, I was replying to the previous poster.

    Makarenko on for Stepenenko.

Sounds like a change of dance whilst on a crazy Club Med holiday.

There’s something quite distasteful about this whimsical.

    Maguire was excellent.

Can’t work out whether Southgate is a genius or just winging it.

    If he’s winging it, he’s a genius.

Credit where credit’s due. Southgate played a blinder with his selection and subs today. What a result.

I'm sure the headlines in the Mail, Express, f**king Sun et al, will be demanding that the English team continues to burnish its woke credentials in future...

I mean, why on Earth would anyone change a winning formula?

Pickford was very good, and the three Yorkie boys: Walker, Stones and the man who should be captain, McGuire played great in a 3 with both Trippier and the attacking Shaw who had a powerhouse of a second half with an assist and starting the move which led to the second goal.

Don't want to be a party pooper but despite the clean sheet, Germany had 3 great chances to score with Werner, Muller and the shocking back pass from Sterling.
Sterling has finally become a regular scorer for England and the two years he went without scoring are history.

Kane, desperately needed that headed goal as he had been working hard but looked bereft of confidence in front of goal which is bizarre considering his record.

We may well revert to 4 at the back because we won't has to negate Gosens because both Sweden and Ukraine play a different system.

I've not read previous comments. I thought Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips were absolutely superb, particularly in the second half. They won everything and players like Kroos don't like it unless they get 5 mins on the ball.

I doubted Southgate's formation/tactics and although I didn't see anything from Germany which suggests to me that we wouldn't have won going a bit more attacking, like many others I'll hold my hand up and say he got the job done. Still haven't conceded and in the quarter finals. I would like to see a bit more from us because we have the attacking players to be much more of a threat but if we win the next 3 games 1-0 and play boring stuff nobody will give a shite.

Luke Shaw gave his France impression, absolutely woeful first half but outstanding for the majority of the second, playing a big part in both goals. Maguire was reasonably solid but we did get lucky a few times with his lack of pace. Kane was absolutely awful but scored, and really hope that finds him some form.

They were one and the same. Unless you mean the Havertz shot?

If anyone is looking for a good omen, my Facebook memories have provided it this morning. Seven years ago to the day, walking back from the beach in Majorca we walked past a German man getting something from the boot of his car. He then reached up, misjudged his standing position and slammed the boot down on his own head. The noise was incredible and he knocked himself unconscious. Was one of the most bizarre and funny things I’ve ever seen.

Germany are getting knocked out. It’s coming home.
Feel free to shower me with likes. I’ve already gave myself a Promote :-)

Doing a pretty good job of smashing each other at the moment. There might not be any players left for either of them to put out at this rate

That was a superb night. Momentous. Whatever happens in this tournament, a WC semi final and beating the Germans at Wembley, knocking them out will live long in the memory.

The Havertz one would have been fortunate but I make you right, we weren't rock solid for 90 mins. Some very poor defending for the Werner and Muller chances but very few teams don't allow the opposition a chance or two. We're still not quite creating enough but hey, we're winning football matches.

Absolutely steaming. Great night down the Anglesey Arms in Woolwich.

For those of you who were determined to criticise England/Southgate at every move, hope you’re feeling as embarrassed as you should be.

    Sterling performance
  • It might actually be coming home.

    Maybe, just maybe!!
  • Just see Kanes interview after the game with the ITV crew. He was almost in tears.

Sterling also falling to his knees when Muller missed and Trippier/Rice when over and picked him straight up.

    These boys care.
Southgate's line about if his decision/ tactics didn't pay off it was end of was poignant too.

Such much pressure he's under.  Fantastic effort all round and really hope we win this not only for the fans and the lift it gives the country but for this set of players and the manager too.

Was going to post similar. Kane pausing his interview to listen to the fans shows how much fans mean to the players and like you say, shows just how much he cares. He's been poor and was awful today, but even top players go through that, really hope his goal propels him into form, he so deserves to take plaudits for leading us to glory.

Not sure which goal or was, maybe Kane's? But Maguire's face during the celebrations says it all. They'd be in the stands if they weren't on the pitch.
