Yes, it is appalling. Think also that Monk and his co-accused have been drawing a full police salary all this time. Only now will the plod fast-track a misconduct hearing! While homicide is the most heinous of crimes, it is also usually one of the easiest and quickest to investigate and prosecute. The delay in this matter in inexcusable. In this case the police knew who the suspects were from the first minute. Yet, charges were not brought until the end of 2019. None of this is sensible or even explainable.0 -
The officer that has been convicted got just 8 years ! Out in 6 probably, disgusting sentence. If that happened in the States there would be outcry. Excessive force to the extent of kicking someone in the head and leaving lace marks. If a normal citizen did that whatever the circumstances I doubt they would only get 8 years ffs1

The Police force employing him are unable to proceed with misconduct hearings until criminal proceedings are finalised, their hands are tied with that. Now he's been found guilty his employment hearing will be fast tracked and I suspect will be wrapped up pretty quick.
I agree on the length of time being far from ideal, no doubt this was a complex case however a delay such as this one impacts on everyone involved. Be interesting to see if/what the explanation is from CPS in terms of why it took so long, there may very well be reasons why which just are not in the public domain.1 -
