Even better if they limited entry to actual league champions from as many European leagues as possible, and did away with more than one spot for any one league.EricBanterna said:Wouldn't it be great if the champions league refused entry to these teams for next year now.15 -

The context being around all the sudden resignations from the top clubs involved in the Super League.0 -

Recon it could be the Spuds,if everyone else leaves they can claim the Trophy...year ends in 1 don’t ya know...👍SELR_addicks said:So who will be the last to pull out?
Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United and Real Madrid I think are the 4 that have been pushing it behind the scenes the most.3 -

His family own the club so might be less likely than it seems.0 -
Should this now be a RIP thread? Admin please change7

Woodward due to leave end of season anyway, I think.
But not crying any tears.0 -
How dense were these people if they didn't realise this was going to be the sort of response.

Some owners “get it”, some think they “get it” but just do not. We have seen this very clearly at Charlton - compare Charlton TV to the Fan Sofa. This is just a much larger manifestation of the same issue. Football is a religion, you can’t just come in and change its doctrines because there are other doctrines that work in a different religion.FishCostaFortune said:How dense were these people if they didn't realise this was going to be the sort of response.11 -

Eieieio, up the Super League we go, and cos there's no promotion, it doesn't mean a thing, we are Charlton we are Charlton, Adkins is our King!6

Exactly what I just said to the better half. These people are clueless.FishCostaFortune said:How dense were these people if they didn't realise this was going to be the sort of response.0 -
Football is saved and can now be returned to the altruistic custodianship of UEFA and FIFA13

11 teams have now pulled out, only Spurs left in. Bookies have made them second favourites.21

Basically, now that the Spanish government has finally stopped bankrolling Real Madrid, and Barca (who sold their soul years ago) have been financially living beyond their means for decades, they're utterly fucked financially and know it. Covid has just hastened the reality of their imperilment.
They've convinced the greedy, conniving yank fucks who own Utd and Liverpool that they can finally do away with the whole 'missing out on the champions league payday' nonsense by getting them (and a few other delusional (Arsenal, Tottingham) or basket case (Juve, Milan) clubs) to go along with it in an extremely misguided attempt at brinkmanship.
Be interesting to see how this pans out now, with all their leverage pretty much gone. Still think that, sadly, they'll end up with a bigger slice of the pie 😢

I agree with all of this, but hope your prediction in the last sentence is wrongLeroy Ambrose said:Basically, now that the Spanish government has finally stopped bankrolling Real Madrid, and Barca (who sold their soul years ago) have been financially living beyond their means for decades, they're utterly fucked financially and know it. Doubt it, haven’t they all resigned from the ECA where the share of the pie is debated?Leroy Ambrose said:Basically, now that the Spanish government has finally stopped bankrolling Real Madrid, and Barca (who sold their soul years ago) have been financially living beyond their means for decades, they're utterly fucked financially and know it. The Americans must be very confused about what’s taken place. Will be an interesting event in the history of the sport to look back on.1 -
In honesty, premier league top 6 is like the super league anyway. Theres no real hope for anyone in the football league to win apart from heavy investment (city, leceister etc)
id rather the championship and below seceded - espec with the wage caps coming in which will increase the gap to the super premier league.0 -

I'm giving you a like purely for the use of imperilment, which I'm not even sure is a real wordLeroy Ambrose said:Basically, now that the Spanish government has finally stopped bankrolling Real Madrid, and Barca (who sold their soul years ago) have been financially living beyond their means for decades, they're utterly fucked financially and know it. I guess this might show the Americans that with real competitive sport comes real passion. Was there much of an outcry when the raiders moved from LA to Oklahoma to Las Vegas?se9addick said:

I love the idea of the Raiders playing in Oklahoma, not sure the locals would know what to make of it!Gary Poole said:

We shouldn’t assume that all US sports fans are less passionate than any English football fans, it’s more nuanced than that.0 -

Sorry Oakland, but that does kind of prove my point. It’s like a team from South West London moving to Milton Keynesse9addick said:
