So... all the ESL executives who just resigned from the EPL leadership positions yesterday.... let's keep them out. No coming back. Frankly, I think the rest of the EPL should pass an even split of all EPL television revenue right now. Really put these big clubs in their place now that they are sulking back.10

I do agree in a sense that Man City should get more money for the partaking than Spartak Moscow as they have considerably higher overheads25 -
I've seen a few mentions that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also pulling out but here in Spain, there's no sign of that. They got a court judgement yesterday preventing any sort of reprisal or punishment against the three Spanish clubs by La Liga, UEFA or FIFA. And they state they are replanting how to push ahead with the Italian clubs now that the English have jumped ship.
All this may change quickly - they're looking very isolated right now- but as it stands, the greedy six are still planning to continue for the good of football.2 -

UEFA should give them a week to reconsider and resign from this idea, if not then they should be subjected to penalties/fines/ejection from tournaments.1

Sounds like the FA with Government backing we’re going to throw the six out of English competitions and were not going to issue work permits for any overseas players at those clubs.2

When you break down the reasoning from some of these clubs, it is: It is getting too expensive for us to maintain our guaranteed position in the elite of the game. Football has to change because it is our God given right to be there.
No it isn't. Spend what you can afford. Compete, and if you are toppled by the likes of Leicester and Atalanta, that is the game.24 -
Well it was super while it lasted!1

So did Levy pay off Mourinho based on the assumption that the Super League money was coming in...?9

Instead of looking for ways to make the so called big six richer we should be looking at ways to spread the money more evenly.
For instance make the championship the premier league B or something.
What needs to happen at the top is for clubs to get together and pay football players a more realistic wage.
Players earning 300k per week plus is an absolute disgrace. If the top six reckon they are suffering financially then all get together and agree a sensible wage structure.
It won't happen though as they are self serving gready bastards.12 -
Seems the European Super League has reached the knockout stages already!
(We had that one yet?)7 -

As we sit back and enjoy the bloody nose that has been inflicted on the so-called super powers who wanted to stuff everyone else, just remember that yesterday UEFA agreed to a new Champions League format from 2024 that will guarantee each club at least 10 games and allow entry to clubs who fail to qualify on a co-efficient basis ie make sure that the likes of Liverpool, who might miss out this year, don't do so in future.
A quailfying tournament of 10 games means it is going to dominate the football calendar pre-Christmas. Bye, bye League Cup for sure (or the "big" 6 playing their u-23s); how long before the "big" 6 start demanding a reduction in Premier League clubs as they have too many fixtures?
It still means more money for the "big" clubs. Just not as much as they hoped.
The big reset we want is still miles away I fear.

I was very aware of those changes in the CL, and there are not good, lack of meritocracy but the threat of a collapsing pyramid is over for now and that’s a huge huge positive.

How about a knockout tournament where national champions play each other? You could maybe call it the European cup.19
-
Am I the only one thinking it's a bit of a shame they've backed down so quickly? I'd have loved to see them go ahead with it, get kicked out of everything, fined astronomical amounts that was fed into grass roots and lower league football, have a media blackout of it all, it all go tits up for them all, all whilst football undergoes true reform. Alas, I guess it wasn't meant to be27

Way too radical - the fans would never allow it.

Yeah will be a shame if nothing comes from this - The big clubs are allowed to apologise, go back to normal and then in a few years they will try something similar again, next time not making the same braindead mistakes3

John Barnes is making some great points on Talksport.
All that happened yesterday was that the people who exploit the fans has changed. Now it will not be ESL (big 6) exploiting the fans it will now be UEFA, FIFA, EPL, SKY and BT.
It was not fan power that made them back down but Sky, UEFA, FIFA and the EPL to protect themselves.
Fans will still be exploited by high ticket prices, High TV packages, High Shirt costs
Football sold out in 92 the rest of the Pyramid are still exploited

Agents, players, kit manufacturers, employees in executive positions, FIFA, UEFA, The FA, SKY, even Quest.
Football clubs are just a mechanic for moving one pile of money from one place to the other.
If you forget the pandemic for a moment and look at Charlton, as an example, people will always complain that tickets and shirts are too expensive while at the same time saying we need more, better (more expensive) players. Who pays for it?
There is always outrage, rightfully or wrongly, about players like KVB, Pogba and Haaland and their wages. But league 1 players are paid, on average, far too much compared to the income the clubs can generate. So who makes up the difference? The answer is always "not me".
I have no idea what the answer is.3 -
From the UEFA site: The additional four slots available in 2024/25 will be allocated according to three different criteria:
- Slot one: awarded to a club from the country placed fifth in UEFA’s national association coefficient rankings. Each association's coefficient is based on the results of its clubs’ performances in five previous Champions League and Europa League seasons.
- Slot two: awarded to the domestic league champion with the highest club coefficient among all other domestic champions that have not automatically qualified for the Champions League’s league stage.
- Slots three and four: awarded to the two clubs with the highest club coefficients that have not qualified automatically for the Champions League’s league stage, but have qualified either for the Champions League qualification phase or the Europa League/the Europa Conference League

Football is corrupt to the core. Sky etc make me laugh with their faux outrage over the ESL.2

Well, that was an interesting 48 hours.1

The apology from John W Henry is the most insincere statement of all time - what an utter c***.3
