I do love that he's chosen that as his first photo though. Good lad1

It's all about the ink these days. Get yourself a sleeve and a couple of neck tattoos during lockdown and you'll be crushing it.Leuth said:So that's what I'm bloody competing with? No wonder9 -
The praise he gave Southall in January has made me question his opinion now.mart77 said:I’d take anything MacAnthony says with a huge pinch of salt7 -
I must admit I'm so looking forward to Marcus's first start for us. He has so much ability which, on top of what we've already got, could make us absolutely unstoppable in this league.2

Right now I cannot see that there is a regular place for Maddison. I wonder if Bowyer now regrets having signed him ?5

Him and Williams will do the Aneke/Bogle switcheroo act most games when fit I thinkLincsaddick said:Right now I cannot see that there is a regular place for Maddison. I wonder if Bowyer now regrets having signed him ?4 -
True, it's a long and arduous season and if players can be kept fit and happy, there will certainly be a need for a big and versatile squad full of good players.Leuth said:

The big question is: Did you swipe right or Left?!Scoham said:

As for the Insta post...not real is it?

When Maddison is fit, he won't always start - but will always be in the 18, rotated as necessary to keep him fresh.Lincsaddick said:Right now I cannot see that there is a regular place for Maddison. I wonder if Bowyer now regrets having signed him ?
That's Bowyer's mode of operation, as we all know.
Bowyer regret signing him?
Not a chance, at least football wise. He's a proven player at this level, a proper tin-opener against tight defences, pin point crossing ability, great on the counter, assists and goals.
Bowyer will be frustrated though, that he's not been able to use him due to this injury niggle.
Though that's the risk signing players who hadn't played since March and no pre-season.

I do wonder if Doughty's injury has paradoxically made it harder for Maddison to force his way into the team.Lincsaddick said:Right now I cannot see that there is a regular place for Maddison. I wonder if Bowyer now regrets having signed him ?1 -

Once Bogle is properly match fit I wouldn't be surprised to see Aneke and Williams do a 60/30 switcharoo Saturday-Tuesday.Leuth said:

And said all through last season. Is he a very good league 1 9? Yes. Is he a championship 9? Probably not.Oggy Red said:

Can't see it. Aneke going to be predominatly a striker this season I think, we're already slightly short up front. We have plenty of options, particularly when Maddison and then Doughty are back, but I think Leuth is right. I soon expect us to go with the diamond, Maddison/Williams and then Bogle/Aneke.Cafc43v3r said:

To be honest I see Maddison rotating more with a player like Smyth - from what I see of him he seems to be very direct and proactive like Smyth is.
It really does feel like we have a fantastic team.2 -
We already have, that’s how we started against Pompey. Agree on the last bit, plus Smyth or Washington as the quick striker who can drift out wide.cafcfan1990 said:

Aneke is a better 10 than he is 9.
There will be other times when Bowyer will want a more solid midfield, so he could go with two from Maddison, Williams, Smyth and Washington out wide in a 4-3-3.

I think he'll use Maddison the same way he used Doughty. As a lone wide player in a lopsided diamond
That was also where he played when he came on against Sunderland
Can't see him spending a lot of time as a 10 personally0 -
I think a diamond provides a more solid midfield than 433 or at least similar, both formations contain 3 CMs. I get what you are saying that, we could play Smyth in a 433 but actually he plays more of a RM than RW.Scoham said:

The diamond allows flexibility and interchange but it’s not more solid than 433.cafcfan1990 said:

All other things being equal I still think Bowyer sees Aneke as a 10. If he gets Bogle fit enough to play 90 every game, we will find out, until that happens we won't.cafcfan1990 said:

Bowyer isn't going to say "he isn't a 9 but I have got to play him there". Not with this owner, he doesn't have to play those games any more.0 -

Why not? Both formations essentially have 3 CMs and 3 more attacking players. The diamond generally has someone sitting in front of the back 4 too.wmcf123 said:

I’m not saying he doesn’t but we have a lack of strikers and Maddison in AM. I’d be very very surprised if Aneke and Williams take in turns to play behind Bogle and Washington. It means we don’t really have a striker on the bench and Maddison is just not going to play? No chance.Cafc43v3r said:

Chucks has always been a nr 9 for me - now Taylor is gone there is no longer any point pretending otherwise0

I remember praising both MacAnthony and Southall for being so open with fans after watching that video (not a post that aged well!). Even though I didn't say it at the time I did have a nagging doubt as con men types invariably fake sincerity and MacAnthony looking straight into the camera seemed overly concerned about projecting himself that way.Cordoban Addick said:

Hopefully they got his order right this week

You can see why a lot of football people don’t like him.His goals and assists make up for the poor diet and late nights playing Fifa. Hopefully he can get out on the pitch and start doing what he does, if not I can see Bowyer and the players growing tired of him sitting in 2nd gear while they’re going flat out6

I wasn't that positive when he signed, but I was very impressed with his cameo against Sunderland.
The way he tracked back and made a crucial last minute header belied those who said he didn't work hard
I hope he is fit enough to play against Plymouth next Saturday.3
