Tahnoon Nimer: We’ll use technology to help make Charlton Athletic stronger – we have five-year plan

Can’t blame the owner to be honest, I wouldn’t want to be chucking my hard earned cash at a club where if I signed new players I’d be worried about them getting injured after 5 minutes.

Saying that, like it or not, we are in a relegation dogfight, and need an injection of quality into the first team, if we have aspirations of survival in this division, we don’t need a load of panic signings at the end of the transfer window that are not up to the job.

This is such a weird quiet Brexity discussion.
    Why?

    Technology? Race? Ownership?
The whole where’s he’s from stuff
    @ValleyGary already answered that
  • Never mind a 5 year plan, what’s the next 5 month plan?
    Agree.
Because if the next two weeks goes badly ?
The 4 and a half year plan is how do we get back to the Championship.
So true step  1 of the 5 year plan will be getting out of league 1.
    This.
It could be a 4-yr plan if they stopped mucking about and got some physically capable signings (&contracts) across the line in the next 12-days....

When Russell Slade took over,  his record was mediocre on the pitch but he was experienced with how a football club should be run and couldn't believe that injured players who were under contract were allowed to disappear and not be monitored in the Summer.  Igor was one and I believe Rhoys Wiggins but the most crowded room at Sparrows lane during the six years of Duchatelet's tenure needs having the best equipment and the best qualified medics under the new ownership.

  • I posted some of this on the transfer thread but on this thread is better.

It's good to have a look at the medical dept and improve things. That's not saying the medical department is crap. Its good to always look to see how things can be improved. Also good to have a sufficient budget and not have to buy injury players in the first place and have a decent enough squad to be able to rest players.

Contributory reasons to the injury crisis, is a small squad and not being able to rest players when needed, some of the quality players Charlton could afford on the Duchatelet budget, have an injury history and so cheaper. If with their quality and not having an injury history Charlton could have not afforded them. These players are a bit of a gamble as to whether they will hold up or not.  All this a result of Duchatelet policy and a feature of Duchatelet's squads.

I think things are a bit better more complicated buying players - a team can't go an buy 5 players with the aim of a couple of them working out due to financial fair play. Look at Derby and Birmingham City. Good judgement on characters is important. Its good to stick to a plan, but getting sufficient reinforcements to rebuild and stay in the Championship is also very important - and if there is space for that, given losses are over 3 years, that should be an ESI consideration. So good to stick roughly to the plan but pissing about excessively at this point and not signing someone is not helpful.

A bit of balance is needed. Good Charlton have Steve Gallen and Lee Bowyer and their transfer dealings have been very good so far.

It took a couple of seasons for Standard Liege to recover from Duchatelet, it is likely to be similar for Charlton. Hoping that ESI deeds matches up to their words & PR.

Wasn't there a rumour one of our injured players went missing and nobody knew where he'd gone, might have been Kashi?

    Well remembered, it was Kashi.

PLEASE don't tell us that Fergie's involved !

    ( Not Sir Alex...)
  • It's good news that they're going to investigate the medical and conditioning side for sure, but I'm slightly surprised that they're bringing in people from the UAE when London has a very good reputation reputation for sports science.

It's also going to be pretty dispiriting for our Medical team:

Head of Medical Services: Alastair Thrush

    Club Doctor: Chris Jones

Lead First-Team Sports Scientist: Josh Hornby

    First-Team Sports Scientist: Ben Talbot

    First-Team Physio: Adam Coe

    First-Team Assistant Therapist: Steve Jackson

This can only be good news.

Medical team were hoping for an increase in budget when we got promoted, we all know that didn’t happen. You wouldn’t believe what they have to work with in comparison to other clubs in this league. It’s miles apart. Therefore, advancements in technology and further specialists to come in and assess the players is great news. They can run tests on them which we never would’ve been able to do before, and add that to the training ground development where I am sure they will make the medical and sports science department up to a very high standard. All of this can only be a good thing and positive for us moving forward.

We need to find ways of developing our rehabilitation, recovery, strength, and conditioning. That’s not to say the people doing that now aren’t good enough, because they are. It’s to say the way football and sport in general is moving, it’s developing so fast that quite frankly, we have been left behind for a very long time. It’s been this way since before Roland was here and of course, all throughout it. That’s a lot to develop.

We do need new players now but that’s extremely short-sighted. On the bigger picture of our club and the departments that run constantly through it, the development of medicine and sports science through extra specialist from the private clinics in UAE, advancements in technologies, and bringing ourselves to the front of development in this area is a huge step forward. I, for one, am very pleased to read this news today.
Alas a sensible comment! Completely agree!
  • If we’re going to rely on technology and expertise from the Middle East then we’re in for a bumpy ride

What kind of ride would you say we are in now, injury-wise?

I would be surprised if HE nationality was not part of the fit and proper person's delay.  It is a country with sanctions impossed against it and I would imagine and expect closer scrutiny because of this.

It would equally not surprise me if it made running or at least opening a UK bank account more difficult.  No idea if there would be further repercussions.

Love the idea of tech and bringing over the best of the UAE medical teams, it is clearly a way of improving us and any fan should applaud such initiatives.  Even with our weakened team we have rarely lost by more than a goal so even if you could get 5-10% more from your performances it would have had a significant impact on our points total

Really? In my line of business, I do a lot of work with the Middle East and their technology is first class.

I’ve also experienced their medical facilities and they are excellent.
I'm sure they are, but surely no better than the ones in London?

I can't help wondering if Bowyer's training techniques are partially responsible. After all there is a suspicion that with other coaches like Bielsa at Leeds that their players are brilliant in the first half of the season, then slightly hit a wall as the heavy physical training catches up with them. The likes of Luton, Barnsley and Wigan haven't had the injury problems we have, and they don't have obviously larger squads.

     No idea.
When I first brought it up the Airman liked my post, but don't think he commented on it.

No doubt he's been doing some digging.
     It'll cost you though!

    ;-)

But our owners are based in UAE so they would obviously use the contacts and technology that they know.

Why? I’ve worked in a company struggling before, and when external experts in the field have come in to help, it has given a new lease of life and helped the company get back to better days.
Yup, nothing new, it happens in all industries.

And what’s to say they won’t actually welcome these developments? I would assume it provides them with more support, funding and focus.
  • Getting worried about ESI - very odd statement from the new owner given our predicament.

Splash the cash, even if for some quality loan signings to try and keep us up.

Surely, they need to do all they can the club away from relegation and all the other longer term ideas can kick in over time?

Maybe they have not got all the cash we thought they had??

Thats the issue - otherwise we will be back in league 1.

Its very worrying they are looking at very average league 1 teams for transfer targets.

Let's hope so. Perhaps the medical team were consulted about this, before the announcement was made, to see what sort of help and improvements, in terms of equipment and facilities, they needed. If not I'd be slightly p*ssed off if I were in their shoes. It might feel like they were be blamed for our current plight. This sort of change needs to be managed to keep staff onside. Perfectly possible it has been of course.
  • For now I'd be happy if they'd use money to help make Charlton Athletic stronger...

We also have to remember that His Excellency overlooks the running of over 60 businesses. Of those businesses, health and medicine are part of them. Just as energy, gas, oil, broadcasting, insurance etc.

He has an unbelievable amount of incredible contacts so if we need the very best, even though London has fantastic people, we will be able to get the very best.

It’s not all about spending money, it’s also using the network he has at his disposal. That could help us hugely in the long term.

Didn't Roly also have a "network"??

If they want us to stay in this league, they need to invest in a few key players now.

    Its that simple.

Ollie Clarke could probably be classed as an average league one player but who else is ? Maddison, Clarke-Harris , Fraser .. not sure who else but they’re all top league one players who would make a difference for us.
