1 Maddison will not be costing £2.5M, probably less than £1M.

2 Ok he may not be the role model footballer but we didn't complain too much about Di Canio.

I hope we get him, but there's only one person that knows & that's him.

Unfortunately, Brum is closer than London for him.
Di Canio was a world class player though.
Top notch trainer as well, by all accounts
That was the thing that struck me most of all watching Di Canio live. You knew he’d have skill and a footballing brain that others could only dream about but I couldn’t believe how hard the guy worked on the field.
Best player I have ever seen in a Charlton shirt.
Allan Simonsen surely or did you only start going when we were in the Premiership 😀
A lot of fans wouldn't even have been born
Have you seen Elfsborg ? Unless he had a hard upbringing I’m pretty sure he was born !
I can confirm Elfsborg is 85

The magic of the updated squad list working straight away.

No sooner than it is put up than rumours of not one but two signings appear.

Reach out and like the updated squad list to increase its magic power.

The thing I recall about DiCanio was how much he enjoyed that season. I remember Lisbie's Hat-trick against Liverpool and his delight from the sidelines having been substituted. His best days were behind him, but he still had enough to inject some real quality into what was a very good side.
Anybody with the foresight and bottle to chip David Seaman from the penalty spot was probably having the best season of his whole career
Errr, Seaman wasn't playing.  It was the German goalie Lehmann (Sp?).

This all day long, no ifs, no buts, no maybes.

Saw him make his debut for the club in a midweek reserve game v Swansea in a fairly packed old West Stand over 2000? fans in attendance November 1982. Elfs was there according to an old post on this forum in 2017 😲.

And if it gets a promote we might actually sign someone? :-)

I don't think DiCanio was our best player that year. But his quality was important. We had a very strong team.
  • If someone refuses to say the name of a player they have been told we might sign but still post in here.

Sorry to be harsh but, it's either attention seeking or bullshit.

    Just don't say anything.

He only scored 4 goals that season all from penalty spot , great player
The day after De Canio's penalty against Arsenal, Paolo was in the club shop and the queue was longer than signing on day in the dole office in Liverpool. My lad was 11 and the conveyor belt was moving quickly, Matt was next to go, what question can I ask the Maestro in 10 seconds ?
" Paolo when do you decide where to put your penalty" ?
De Canio stood up, and his arms started flailing and I felt like the referee Paul Alcock, but no, he came close and unlike Nigel Winterburn, I didn't back off.

" I decide when I looka deep inside the keeper eyes and I know, I will score. riuscito

Two men shake hands, in deep mutual respect.

I think it's fine - whoever it is (and we will sign somebody soon!) they can say 'yes that's the one'.

Also, I like opening birthday and Christmas presents not knowing in advance what I've got! But I do have a feeling that this might be a pair of socks.
  • Not a rumour but if we've missed out on Harry Toffolo to Huddersfield Denver Hume has impressed me for Sunderland this year. Definitely someone that would improve us now and has potential to be worth more in a few years time.

More like being told you have a surprise gift from someone but ending up with fk all
  • Millwall after mason Bennett and Ryan woods, would be good signings for us surely?

Tell you what lads, I'll act as independent adjudicator. DM me with what you've heard and I'll keep schtum, but if it pans out I'll confirm your righteousness to the thread :-)

I have heard 3 names from various sources - 1 more reliable than others I must add. -  ill put the 3 names it ive heard -  Scott Fraser from Burton , Billy Gilmour ( loan from Chelsea ) - Matej Vydra.
Vydra would be a nice signing but we’d have no chance, there’s loads of clubs in this league that would pay more to sign him.

Vydra was one of the three names that Sage mentioned just after we'd signed Green so would make sense in a way

Agreed though he would be a bit of a coup

Leeds were lining up a £7m+ deal for Vydra.

Fraser and Maddison both on this list.

@Stig you're good with graphics how about knocking up a sort of grid with all the names of players we might be signing on it and we can play a game akin to pin the tail on a donkey 😉.

Can't see us signing Vydra , quality player that Burnley will want serious cash to sell.

Yep, local press are citing Birmingham (but, money?) and Leeds (money no problem, and best for Vydra's need to impress the national team coach).

First the good news. Lehman looks dazed after nutting the crossbar, now the bad news we need a new crossbar...................Paddy!
