That's ridiculous. The shot went wide by about 6 yards and was going out of play with no (legal) players from either team anywhere near it. Just award a goal kick and get on with it.
Interesting .. I make the referee right .. like it or not, laws/rules are there for a purpose .. a non active player has no right to interfere on the field of play no matter how seemingly trivial or inconsequential his interference might be .. what about if the goalkeeper chased out of his area (as in Bonne's goal at Bristol) and one of the City subs had leapt onto the field and stopped Bonne's shot from crossing the line either for a goal or goal kick, is that right ? .. would the ref be able to award a goal or just give a pen and send off the perpetrator .. whatever, the game would be ruined .. interference is interference (and Brexit means Brexit) ((:>)
Ball didnt go out of play so the Goalkeeper wouldnt have been taking a goal kick - Only factor was none of the players realised, had they done then they could have ran up and put the ball in the net prior to the Goalkeeper doing his run up

Except play had been stopped already. If the referee had simply allowed play to continue nothing would have been any different than if the sub had never touched the ball in the first place. In this case, the actions of the referee had an impact on the game but the offence that occurred didn't, which is farcical.
Didnt Mourinho do the same in the Premier League a few years ago?
Ball was going for a throw in yet ran up the touchline to stop the ball and get it back in play quicker only for him to reach it before it had fully croseer the line?
