Officers are preparing for the "largest ever football policing operation in Hampshire" ahead of the Portsmouth v Southampton derby.
The clubs meet for their Carabao Cup tie tonight, the first time they have played each other since 2012.
Riot police, police dogs, helicopters, horses and drones will be deployed.
Hampshire Constabulary said the police presence was needed to stop a "small minority ruining it for everyone".

Don’t like either club, don’t like either sets of fans. Bunch of weirdos who think they’re so much bigger and better than they are. Find it funny how poorly Portsmouth are doing this season and to be getting beaten against their biggest rivals at home just makes it a little more sweeter. The stick they’re going to get is very well deserved. The recent results and performances are so poor for this Tottenham side. What is going on because something clearly isn’t right?

No you’re right. He doesn’t look happy. If you compare him now to when Spurs were trying to win the league when Leicester won it, he’s a different person. Maybe he has had too many restrains in the past and he has gone a bit stale with this group of players. Because they’re a talented squad. Lose on Friday and not win against Huddersfield on the following Tuesday, they could well be bottom of the league with a quarter of the season gone, without winning a single league game. Jones would be out of the job for sure.0 -

Pompey also lost 2 of their best players too. It does seem that a few losing playoff teams in L1 seem to struggle a bit the following season.
