Bit humid, but will be a lovely cycle home to Eltham in about 20 minutes. Might go via Greenwich Park on the way back, then stop off at the princess of wales for a casual pint on the heath.

The problem is, it’s Network Rail who impose speed restrictions that although doesn’t actually make rail companies reduce the services, if they didn’t there would be uproar as hardly anything would be moving.
it does unfortunately make sense, like it or not, it’s better for all.......IF thy get it right.1 -

If you have spare days holidays & fancy the day off, on what will possibly be the hottest ever day recorded in the UK, then it may be a good idea to do so.

Investment in modern trains with working air con would be helpful. The Thameslink trains are decent but those metro trains are not fit for purpose in these conditions. If the track is also unable to take the heat, maybe some investment there is overdue as well!!?2

southern - may experience delays due to speed restrictions
south western - no mass cancellation or delays expected
so south eastern must have chocolate tracks - they really are the pits.
the winter they cannot cope if the temp drops below 8 degrees

Nobody says to you when you hand over thousands for a season ticket, "by the way mate, you won't actually be able to travel on a lot of those days. We can't run a normal service if it's too hot, too cold or too mild, or if it's too wet or too dry, or if it's too sunny or not sunny enough.
It's entirely taking the piss. If you pre-booked cinema tickets and when you turned up they didn't have any films to show, you'd expect your money back. If they really can't run the trains on Thursday, then they should have people deployed at all the major stations on Friday (or whenever they next have a day where they can run a normal service), handing out compensation - "sorry, we couldn't deliver what you paid for yesterday, here's your money back." Utter scum.12 -
Not to mention your effectively wasting a day of Annual Leave because of something out of your control - I've only got 10.5 days left to take from my 22-days, thank god I'm not having to waste one of them because SouthEastern are suggesting that I take a day off to avoid their reduced service... If they did that over a few days where I'd be forced to take more than one day off then I've barely any holiday left to take until bloody April next year!!MrLargo said:

Crossrail is finally coming thirty years after the rest of Europe did the same thing. But we love to moan about the waste of money spent on all these "white elephants". so we just make do and complain.
