If this is true (and I take it with a pinch of salt) I think it's really disappointing from the club in question. Yes, this will gain some media attention, but the club should be confident enough to allow him to reveal his sexuality if that is what he thinks is best for him.

If this is true (and I take it with a pinch of salt) I think it's really disappointing from the club in question. Yes, this will gain some media attention, but the club should be confident enough to allow him to reveal his sexuality if that is what he thinks is best for him.

If this is true then the club should be utterly ashamed of themselves. The player should, if he wants to, come out - the club are being advised and not asked to make the decision. 

Where is that story from? It seems unlikely (to me) that a club would advise a player against coming out because of a potential fan backlash. That would be ridiculously narrow minded and might possibly lead to greater anxiety for the player concerned.

Thinking about it, the club being concerned about the "reaction of fans" might not relate to the fans on the terraces at all, but rather overseas fans who the big PL clubs are desperate to court...

Maybe the money and marketing men are more worried about the reaction in the Middle East and Far East. After all homosexuality is still illegal in many of those countries

Even tho i still think it’s made up, you’ve only gotta look at the reaction from Middle East/far east based fans when Arsenal tweeted about their support for LGBT, to see what you’re saying would make sense. Some real Medieval views on show.

Let's not forget, we are talking about an environment where there a no openly gay footballers. So a club taking that stance shouldn't be surprising. Ignorance personified. It is why it is so important gay players do come out. As football lovers, we all have to accept it is an embarassment to the game that there are no out gay footballers in the top four divisions and this needs to be rectified a.s.a.p.
