Never get the love for Wilshere. Here's a player a year ago no one would have been surprised if he had left Arsenal for a mid table side. Fast forward a year and he's had a couple of good games for a very average Arsenal team. One of the most overrated English players of the past 20 years.
  • Would definitely taken one of Wilshere/Shelvey/Lallana. Just happy Livermore aint going tbh.

Feels like names were picked out if a hat. Why the need for so much cover at full back at the expense of creative midfielders? And if we are picking so may full backs how come Bertrand and Shaw aren't amongst them? If wilshere and lallana are ruled out due to fitness and game time how come rose is selected?
We can't underperform this year as expectations are so low but it does seem like a strange squad

Welbeck going is an absolute joke. The bloke cannot score goals. Literally rather have Glen Murray than that fraud.

He’s always done alright for England

    Vardy 21 - 7

    Kane 21 - 12

Most comments across social media mention Wilsheres lack of minutes.

He's played almost 500 minutes more than Welbeck this season.

Obviously different positions and it's not a case of one or the other. But haven't seen Welbeck lack of minutes mentioned every 5 minutes

Walker will play in the back 3, Young and Delph can play in midfield if need be. Young is ahead of Shaw for Utd and Bertrand hasn't had a great season.

Playing against part time fisherman in friendlies? Very impressive.

It's all well and good criticising Welbeck but who else is there? Sturridge, Defoe, Carroll? Am I missing someone obvious?

Don't get me wrong it's not a selection to get excited about but we don't have a great depth of strikers to pick from.

The same part timers and fishermen all those other English strikers failed to score against.

Welbeck gets picked because he is versatile and will work hard defensively too if needed. Managers like that in a player and we don't exactly have a plethora of world class goal scorers queuing up behind him. He fits with the overall defensive, counter attacking squad that Southgate has picked.

I look at that squad and think get Kane, Alli, Rashford and Sterling working well and we will score a few. It's the rest of the team that worries me

Least with Walker, Stones and Maguire you’ve got 3 centre backs that can comfortably come forward with the ball which is gonna by imperative in our group games

Think he's got the keepers bang on. I think we have too many defenders. Dier will go as a CM but can cover the back 3, walker will go tonolau in the back 3 but could cover RWB. Wouldn't have taken Alexander-Arnold or Delph. Would have had Bertrand over Rose but that was Marginal.

CM looks dour as hell - as others have said zero creativity. Would have liked 2 of Wilshere/Lallana/Shelvey along with RLC.

Ali Lingard Rashford sterling pick themselves because there is no one else. As do Kane Vardy and Welbeck.

    Should have been

    Pickford Pope Butland.
    Trippier Walker
    Stones Jones Maguire Tarkowski
    Bertrand Young
    Hendo Dier
Wilshere Shelvey RLC Lallana (pick 3 of 4)
    Ali Lingard Sterling Rashford
    Kane Vardy Welbeck

Gomez and Ox would have gone if fit.

I worry about playing Walker as a right sided CB, when he's never played that role for Spurs or City, and surely his strength is in his attacking play, rather than his defensive work.

He’s only scored in 3 friendly games. One was against Scotland so you have a point about Fishermen.

Shame Danny Drinkwater moved to Chelsea. If he was playing regularly he's a better option than Dier in midfield.

Disappointing... Watching the Southgate press conference and by the way he spoke; Shelvey was never really in his plans as he wont fit into the way we want to play

Who's your number one goalkeeper? Pickford or Butland?

I reckon he will start Pickford as he's better with the ball at his feet.
