Don't want any more African players, allegedly......1
-
Guess that's understandable the way the African Nations Cup can mess up a season0

Is this a problem then? Surely a club & manager can pick and choose who they want in the squad.Brendan_O_Connell said:Don't want any more African players, allegedly......

Starting with the next tournament (2019), it's been agreed to host the AN Cup in June/July for that exact reasonForeverAddickted said:Guess that's understandable the way the African Nations Cup can mess up a season

Good... Although further to what Brendan posted it does seem a bit stupid from the bloke who said it.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Personally I think the end of the email, where he ties to flog the Double Ended 14" Three Speed Anal Intruder, is more offensive...0

I like the way ability is one of the things they don’t discriminate against !3

The dream is still on. Unbelievably tight at the bottom, especially with Swansea resurgent.1

Only on CL could you get a three speed anal intruder and unbelievably tight at the bottom within 3 posts.PragueAddick said:The dream is still on. Unbelievably tight at the bottom, especially with Swansea resurgent.

"A report in the Daily Mail alleged that Tony Henry told an agent that West Ham wanted to limit the number of African players in their squad. He told the paper this was because some “have a bad attitude” and “cause mayhem” when they are not in the team."
So much for African Cup of Nations being the reason...2 - Sponsored links:

It gets worse :-)))) Loving this stuff that Leicester refused to sell Slimani to them because Brady had been gobbing off in her Sun column.13

If that quote from Tony Henry is true and the club really feel this way I say the statement is a fair one. I am not aware there is a quota system in football so West Ham are entitled to buy who they want.SELR_addicks said:"A report in the Daily Mail alleged that Tony Henry told an agent that West Ham wanted to limit the number of African players in their squad. People in football, or at least in administrative roles shouldn't have newspaper columns. Like Simon Jordan you just end up upsetting people by commenting on things that have nothing to do with you, although Simon is a twat and upsets people by breathing.PragueAddick said:It gets worse :-)))) Loving this stuff that Leicester refused to sell Slimani to them because Brady had been gobbing off in her Sun column.

But I reckon there is a better, more "diplomatic" way of saying that now0 -

It is the very definition of racism.
They are saying we are not employing anyone else from a particular continent with a population of over 1 billion because we have decided that all of them "have a bad attitude" on the alleged behaviour of one or two players.
Di Canio pushed over a referee = all Italians attack refs so we're not buying any more.
Sweeping negative generalisations about a particular groups of people = racism.

And better watch Fosu and Kashi too if they get dropped.
Better stick to really committed "European" players like Watt and Holmes4 -
But the quote that came out of West Ham said "some" have a bad attitude not "all" of them. So they were not referring to an entire continent containing millions of peopleHenry Irving said:

if the club have given it go signing players from a particular continent and it has not worked out because "some" of the players have a bad attitude then they are within their rights to look elsewhere.

You seem to have only quoted the 'bad attitude' bit. Can everyone surmise that the 'all of them' reference was just you adding it in for effect and wasn't said, at any point, by anyone?Henry Irving said:

You also seem to have misread the 'some' part of SELR's post and have, instead, spelt it as being 'all'.
Big difference and probably why you have incorrectly concluded.

"Some" white people have a bad attitude so let's limit the number of them we employ.eaststandmike said:

Not Racist
Nothing racist in that?
As soon as you go from the specific ("Some") to general ("limit the number") it is racist.
Tony Watt = bad attitude so lets "limit the number" of Scottish players.
Or maybe clubs could employ people based on their own abilities and own attitudes rather than assuming that because the last bloke from Scotland/Africa was bad then the next one might be.
Racist all day long which is why he's been suspended.12 -

The action of determining to not buy players from a certain ethnic background is by definition racist.
The assertion that players of a certain ethnic background possess character flaws in making their contribution to your organisation over and above those of other nationalities is racial profiling and discriminatory.
Any organisation is entitled to employ who they wish they cannot however discriminate against any individual on the basis of their sex, race, creed or religion in making such decision. Such discrimination is illegal.
The statement made as reported appears to discriminate against players from a certain ethnic background.
The stated recruitment process specifically excluded the consideration of a certain player or players, not based on any specific individual analysis but on a generic ethnic profile.10 -
Wouldn’t have expected this from Thierry’s brother.1 -
As Henry says, it's pretty much the definition of racism.
Our of 7 African players, WH have decided that "some" have a "bad attitude". Let's assume, for the sake of argument, that it is true that those players do have a bad attitude.
On the basis of somewhere between 2 and 6 African players, WH have decided that it will no longer employ any African players at all.
WH is assuming on the basis of a tiny sample size that there is a higher risk that African players will have a bad attitude than non-African players.
In other words African players are more likely to have a bad attitude than non-African players.
If that isn't racism, what on earth is it?6 -
