tough call, think we'll be unchanged and 4 points from the next 2 games (whichever way round they come would be superb)
if we win tomorrow night, then I'd expect a couple of changes for Saturday; Kashi/Solly maybe

Strange that Shrewsbury have Southend tomorrow night at home, the two of us seem to be sharing opponents over these last few days - Even stranger we're having to keep an eye on Shrewsbury results at the moment
In a way I really hope they dont go away and do a Fleetwood this season rather than a Bury.

My first game of season Saturday. It was much better than last year but I didn't think there was too much in it between us and Southend. If Wigan have more than them then we could struggle to win it. I'm positive about the way things are going but just going on what I saw. I'm aware that our 2 'marquee signings' are not yet in the team but I think we will need them and another established leader of the line equal to Magennis if we are to have a swashbuckling all conquering season. The ground felt fuller and just a lot 'better' than last season as well - looking forward to tomorrow night. Dodoo? looked poor Saturday but what did we all think about Da Silva when he first came into the team compared to now.0

Did not think Dodoo looked particularly poor. No glaring errors just a little nervous maybe, give him a chance after all he scored on his debut1

Holmes, JFC, Pearce and Kashi all with question marks over their fitness. Add to that Solly and we might have a few problems. I would expect most of those to start though.

Agreed, he wasn't terrible but I thought he could have worked harder when he came on. I think Byrne would do much better in our system this year with the higher pressing and the freedom to get up field given to the fullbacks (DaSilva more than Solly). It would allow him to get forward on the overlap with more space than he had last year, plus when defending he'd be using his pace more than just sitting deep and that suits him better. He looked a good wingback at Swindon and in our setup you can us the fullbacks as wingback.killerandflash said:

Talking of last season, I'm surprised that Ulvestad is still at Burnley. He must be miles down the pecking order of central midfielders there
But overall I agree our attacking options are much better, and I wouldn't trade him for anyone we have with maybe the exception KAG.
Also worth noting that Terrell Thomas seems to make their bench week in and week out despite getting nowhere near the first team with us. I know it would have been difficult, but I still wish we'd tried to keep him and tried to move Lennon on, either on loan or permanently. Obviously we've been very deep at center back the last couple years so it was always going to be hard to convince a young player to be sixth choice (then behind Bauer, Pearce, Konsa, Tex, Sarr, Lennon). Can't keep all the yoot in the hopes one day they'll come good though.
I'd take a draw right now. Feelings might be a bit different if it were a Saturday game after a week's break, but given we're playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday I think a point would be alright and then go to Gillingham and try to get three points there. Seven points from this run of games would be a good return.0 -

A tense 2-1 home victory for me.
Paul Cook was a very elegant left footed playmaker (my favourite type of player) and I expect them to come to us to play football. Alongside Blackburn I think Wigan and Charlton are the 3 main contenders this season - I really hope we turn up for this!!
PS - I've never forgiven them for gazumping us over Andy Delort...we must punish them7 -
I noticed when reading the comments here after Saturdays game that a lot of people are concerned about Amos. I thought that Phillips did well when given a chance last season, I wouldn't mind him getting his chance again, we need someone with the confidence to lead the defence vocally, and try to put a stop to late goals that can cost points.0

We've only played 8 competitive matches matches against Wigan, but Karl Robinson will be the 7th Charlton manager to face the Latics, after Curbs, Dowie (sacked immediately after losing to Wigan), Pardew, Powell, Peeters and Luzon. Hardly surprising, therefore, that we've had a different face in the dugout for each of our meetings at The Valley.
Our first meeting also happened to be Wigan's first Premier League away game. The previous week they'd been very unfortunate to lose 1-0 to an injury-time goal from Hernan Crespo for Chelsea. We also beat them 1-0, but should have had a lot more for our efforts than just Darren Bent's first goal in SE7.
23,454 at The Valley that day, a bit on the low side compared to our usual home gates back then - not a huge number of travellers from Wigan (not that we can talk). We'll be lucky to get 9,000 tomorrow, I wonder what the missing 14,000 or so are doing with themselves these days - some will be enjoying the Champions League from the comfort of their home, possibly unaware that Charlton are even playing. Some will be spending the evening with the children they've spawned since August 2005, some will be at Welling or Bromley biding their time until Roland sells up. Some might be spending the evening watching pornography and rubbing Marmite on their nipples. Football's not for everyone, each to their own, I guess.
Anyway, first genuine test of our promotion credentials - Wigan will almost certainly be challenging for an automatic spot at the end of the season.
We look good going forward at the moment, but not sufficiently robust defensively, which suggests a 1-1 or 2-2 probably.

Before Saturdays win I'd have settled for 4 points from these two home games, we've rode our luck a bit lately while looking good going forward, no change expected against Wigan, 3-2 and we go top.0

Wigan had to travel away at the weekend and had their first defeat, they had a player sent off after the final whistle it seems to join another suspended player for their trip to Charlton. Three sendings off so far this season.
Wigan then have to take stock on the Sunday, sort things out today and schlepp to London...probably during the day tomorrow.
Our schedule approaching this game is more comfortable than theirs which might give us some hope playing a team with decent quality players, and Jason Pearce knows some of them a bit, and will want to do well against them I would say.
It is difficult to read the runes, but there are reasons to be hopeful, although I agree with other posters that a draw wouldn't be a disaster.
We ought to attack the game in a positive manner, but if we find we can't win, then don't lose.
Promises to be a good contest tomorrow, although they have rather a poor disciplinary record so far this season.
The vital thing is that we kick the right way

They have 5 x outfield players over 30 in their (Bruce, Morgan, Perkins, Roberts, Hunt) so may tire if some of these start.

While we're looking at Wigan and thinking that they'll be a real test, they'll be thinking the same about us, and after a draw and loss in their last 2 matches there's a little bit of pressure on them to get something out of tomorrow's game...1

Konsa would be a decent replacement if either Solly or Kashi needs a break. This will be a battle but I think we can nick it, 2-1, Clarke and JFC to score0
