Has anyone asked who the two Newcastle players were?

    I wonder

Reading this was a bit like the Jaime Lannister scene with Brienne in the bath.

"There it is. There's the look. I've seen it for 17 years on face after face. You all despise me. Oathbreaker. A man without honor."

Curbs wants to look a bit closer to home. He weren't exactly distancing himself from other managerial positions as and when they came up.

Did anyone else read that in the voice of Brigitte Jones?

So, Danny Murphy was sold to Spurs on transfer deadline day. We have an unenviable record of selling our star players at the last minute, without securing a proper replacement. There was Scott Parker, and Andy Reid - and now the great Lee Novak.

    We got super Joe Dodoo!!
  • Another bitter ex employee.
  • I'm in a minority but I liked Murphy , he was quality and had the skill to pick a pass. He did well for Fulham but maybe he thought he was too good for us , but he wasn't as Fulham were a smaller club with smaller attendances. Curbs though , like Furguson at United , cross him at your peril.

I heard it was Jackie Milburn and Malcolm McDonald but don't have any proof...
I think it was Ant and Dec.

PWR every comment but wasn't he sent off against Arsenal, boxing day ? Never played for us again and then despite Curbishley / Murphy suggesting there was no riff between them sold at the very last minute without replacement. This was at the time when I felt Curbishley had started to make some bizarre decisions, such as selling Euell, who was our top scorer at the time. Don't get me wrong, Curbs will always be a hero in my book, but he did make some decisions which at face value made no sense at all, almost, put up or shut up.

Do I believe an arrogant, self serving scouse tosser or the greatest manager of my time supporting the Club?

    Tough one not.

Murphy - scouser = lying scally

Curbs - cockney = salt of the earth.
  • Curbs in his last few seasons seemed to fall out with a lot of players!

    Murphy, young, kiely, euell

If anyone is in any doubt whom Murphy is referring to when he says that Curbs was looking to bring in two players from Newcastle, the answer is Scott Parker. Because, as anyone who has watched them will confirm, he was twice the player Murphy was.

He was sent off (second yellow card) for throwing the ball at the referee. ( it was the ref's feet, I hasten to add!) He never played for Charlton again.

At the time, (although it occurred previously to the infamous event!) I thought it looked a bit of a "Danny Mills". As in, a stupid, deliberate, sending off, to manufacture an internal problem.

I believe the sending off occurred after the famous watch incident. He was probably scared of Big Hermann by then...

weren't we 1-0 down to Arsenal at the time? His tantrum was over a marginal decision in a harmless position, I was convinced he wanted off the pitch and have held him in very low esteem ever since.

Said he chose Charlton over Spurs because we had an English manager.

Anyway, never thought highly of him as a player or pundit.

So basically Curbs said "you want Murphy, we want Bowyer and 2.5m".

Newcastle tried to fob us off with a rubbish Amdy Faye instead. Turns out we ended up paying them for him a couple of years later...

And Yann! My birthday is 31st Jan so I've had a few miserable birthday presents over the years...
  • I don't remember Curbs mentioning it in his autobiography but I'll look it up with interest.
Curbs was certainly capable of playing his cards close to his chest, but I'd warrant his recollection could be quite different to Murphy's.

If I was as fugly as DM and had fallen for a sort of her quality I'd probably be susceptible of becoming a massive pillock to get her what she wanted as well. Photoshopping in that photo is flippin marvellous too

I know for a fact he didn't appreciate the Murphy's growing interest for attending various luncheons, dinners and charity functions etc and generally ingratiating themselves within the London 'swells set'.
Quite understandably, Curbs wanted someone at Sparrows Lane who was 100% focused on football, he felt very strongly that Murphy's main objective in life at that time was to enhance his and his wife's public persona and raise their media profile.
Curb's didn't appreciate it one little bit and as is well known, could be a right bastard if you upset him!
