On 13th August 1977 the far-right National Front (NF) attempted to march from New Cross to Lewisham town centre, leading to violent clashes with counter demonstrators and the police.

On your recommendation, Anna Kissed, I visited the Goldsmiths exhibition and found it fascinating. There was a very talented bunch of young photographers covering the battle in 1977, all of whom have continued to make fine work over many years – Homer Sykes, Chris Schwarz, Syd Shelton, Paul Trevor, Mike Abrahams, Chris Steele-Perkins and Peter Marlow.
