Actually, I'm going to publish a retraction and an apology to NornIrish. Upon closer inspection, and to my detriment I felt pressured to publish a fact that I panicked and didn't think it through. I have a good general knowledge, I know penguins only exist on the antarctic, not the arctic.

Someone must have given a polar bear a bunch of penguins and watched how many he ate, then put it on the internet.

It was a shit fact, I will return tomorrow with a much better one

I knew you'd be all over this. A sign of weakness and I've paid. It won't happen again
  • @LoOkOuT my point was really a warning against 'group think', intolerance of alternative views, loss of perspective, over estimation of Charlton's active anti-owner fan base and so on. In my youth I was very active in left-wing politics and was guilty of all of the above in a political sense.

In order to win we mustn't under estimate Roland or over estimate our own position. We are engaged in a war of attrition that could play out over a number of years. We need to continue to build support amongst the fans, take on alternative views with humour and patience and guard against intolerance.

I'm a ST holder in the Upper West and the wearing of a black and white scarf, standing up during the anti-RD song etc. is still a minority view. The vast majority of the West stand still buy food, don't join the protests etc.

I didn't plan to go to the game tomorrow but having seen Roland's comments I'll make the 200 mile round trip once again for the protest.

Whilst standing at the front of the protests, watching patrons exit the West Stand, it is quite apparent that many are in the 65+ age bracket. It's hardly surprising that many do not wish to join the fight and also that many are not as passionate as others. If they were they wouldn't be sitting there in the first place.
Anyway, good luck to them. We all support Charlton and demonstrations always have and always will be more highly populated by the young.

If it's any help I think they set you up, deliberately unsettling you (knowing you to be a seething mass of insecurities) by misspelling your name, in the sure and certain knowledge that, thus discomfited, you would let you normal high standards and encyclopedic faculties slip.

Knowing also that somewhere amongst the serried ranks of the addickted would be one pedant....

And they've been picking on you ever since.

It's not big and it's not clever, and I hope they're ashamed of themselves.

My old man turned 60 last year. He has sat in the same seat as a season ticket holder since 1993 in the West lower

He doesn't do the protests as he "can't be bothered with all that shit" but he is not renewing next year.

He has fell out of love with the club. He doesn't enjoy going to the games. He doesn't see the point when there is no future.

He does care, just isn't as vocal and visual as some of us.

I hate him feeling like this. He is the reason I love Charlton and he is the reason I'll fight for us.

He sounds like me mate, same age. The difference is that I can't be arsed to go anymore.

  • I think PITL has it right. If the protests die, the significant number of protesters will stay away. Unfortunately some for good. L1 will lose fans anyway. Was in Spain for last protest but there Saturday but not at match. Going to Bees and Fulham but in away ends. Will have no contact with the club financially until they are gone. My nephew ditto. Harder for him in away ends as he has a tattoo of the badge.
  • Daddy has wasted his Eurostar ticket. Douche and his puppet just don't get it. Is papa hanging around for the Cardiff game? No, spineless and couldn't care less. Every word adds power to CARD. Roly / RM / Puppet OUT.

    Nor can he.

Got a very similar situation but my dad is a doer and felt he would give it one last go to try and sort things out - believe me he lives and breaths it and has done loads over the years when the club needed it so that gave him an in - and a chance to get involved - rather than walk away after 60 odd years - u wouldn't believe the involvement over the last few weeks but ultimately - in my opinion - it's been a waste of time and I'm more convinced than ever that we are an experiment of a rich man who has no emotional attachment and no clue and things will only get worse if he stays

Exactly, I've given so much to this forum. I will not let them defeat me

I've had a look at the KM Dublin interview again - there is no way she was doing anything than being critical of fans. she has previous - she forgets that we end up hearing what she says and she is focusing on the weird statement hoping the context of the interview is forgotten . She is stupid. Just like Roland admits he is by saying you are stupid not to learn from your mistakes and in the same interview said we have made the same mistakes. if the intention was to bullshit fans, a village idiot could have done a better job.

If the intention was to wind us up, well he has done a good job. There was nothing of any substance at all that might possibly give us some hope. CEO is doing a good job, the Varney e-mail explanation, admitting mistakes, as he has done before but not saying what they where, it goes on....... I am feeling very down.
  • RD admits mistakes and says he needs to stop us being relegated, so goes out and signs a 29 year old right back who has not played this season, still trying to work out his reasoning
  • Nobody asked him why he keeps bringing in Belgian managers. Nobody asked him why he appointed a manager from Belgium's 3rd tier?!?!

And we need a left back!!!!! We have one of the best right backs in the division - I mean you couldn't make this shit up!
  • Is anyone else concerned that when we go down to league one, that Roland will think "bah, it's only the 3rd tier" and send along more Belgian rejects?
  • Respect your view Kings Hill Addick, but I think the percentage of 'fans' that are staying away is of an incredibly tiny proportion in comparison to those who are staying away because of the dozens of negative things highlighted about the club's ownership and management, I also suspect those that 'just want to watch the football' are more impacted by the sh*te that has been served up on the pitch rather than the protests.

Its interesting you would choose to highlight the protests as such a big negative though. We were struggling in the relegation places before the protests.

To be honest, the protests so far have been mainly on the soft side, largely because there are still a fair percentage of supporters that don't want to negatively impact during games on the team and its performance. This is likely to change as the season progresses, particularly if we get closer to relegation.

Why are the protests so important before the end of this season?

Because for many, many long-term fans this will be the last season-ticket they will possess unless there is change. You're right that CARD may not have any money next season to dress up protests with gimmicks etc, but it also might not have anywhere near as many people on a matchday to carry out those protests because the people just won't be there any more.

Then it will be interesting to see what those that 'just want to watch the football' feel when watching youngsters no-where near ready for League football it in a soulless, near empty stadium.

if we go down, which looks likely, or even if we do not, my 3 west stand season ticket money will go to CARD. CARD will have money next season maybe not as much as this season but my contributions will increase.

We will attend on a pay per game basis when we can but not pay for every game. This is likely to be less than half the home games, and two people rather than three.

We will still attend but many I think will not.

the regime has not grasped this at all. They are in total denial and still running with a failed two year old plan. I still can't see the end game with this RD as owner and all I am hoping for now I the short term is KM getting so upset she resigns.

My concern is that RD will probably appoint Karel Fraeye as CEO.

I think that's a certainty. I've been concerned for a while that we won't stop at league 1.

I agree with all of the above other than the mis-spelling of encyclopaedic.

There is another (but there can be only us in the Sith Rule of Two Pedants)...

If it helps, that's what my phone's predictive text produced (seems to do US and proper English).

  • Can somebody, ideally Airman provide the SLP with a response?
  • @cabbles I've got you sorted:
There is a theory amongst anthropologists that early human social formations were influenced by, or quite directly taken from the observation of dogs and how they form packs. Having dogs as a companion animal goes back at least tens of thousands of years, however, under this theory it could be said that we didn't domesticate dogs, but rather they domesticated us.

Yeah, it's kind of rubbish but whatever I find it quite interesting.
  • Only just read the articles. My view....just sell up Roland. Please, just leave us alone. You don't get it.

  • I didn't finish reading the second one and only skimmed through the first and the third. He genuinely thinks he and the CEO did nothing wrong in the Peter Varney email incident? It makes me feel sick. To be honest I only watched a few minutes of the fans forum video the other day - I watched the whole video of last year's fans meeting but a lot has happened since then and nowadays I tend to have zero interest in anything these lot have to say. I just hope they'll be gone soon - yep, it's the Chinese New Year and that is one of my New Year's wishes.

    Happy new year....

I got to around 40 mins in the Fans Forum video and just felt totally embarrassed and couldnt watch anymore.
