The return of the Yann?

I've read quite a few rumours lately that this is going to happen and really believe that if the Frenchman does return it could seriously divide our fanbase and undo some of the great momentum which has been building up since last weekend's protests.

Don't get me wrong. I was (still am) a massive fan of Kermo but I'd hate for him to come back to our car crash of a club right now.

Thoughts?

I don't agree but that's exactly what they're trying to do. We're too united now.

I would welcome him back. I think it wouldn't hurt protests as it totally backs Rick's radio interview point where he said the Belgians wheel in loans to stave off relegation, later on in the season but then the squad is again in poor condition come September.

Presume that would be his decision. ...
Why should it divide the fan Base?
Football fans are fickle, a couple of quick goals and everyone's onside.
Rumour I heard left as could not get a contract longer than 1 year, has managed 4 more at Bournemouth. Could you honestly blame him?.

It also proves they got it wrong by letting him go.

Yann was (is) such a cult figure in many Charlton fans eyes it would certainly alter their views on the regime and any move to bring him back would be seen as a good thing. On the other side of the fence there are those who see him as some kind of greedy, money grabbing judas who walked out of the club when Bournemouth offered him more money and a longer contract. I do believe that the majority of fans would welcome Yann back but would that be enough to pacify them and dilute the on-going protests therefore turning the tide back in RD, KM and RM's favour? Time will tell I suppose!

This crops up every transfer window and never happens. I think it's Yann getting his revenge on Meire by jizzing us about. Saying yes but never joining. Hope we have another target because if this happens I'll have KM picture tattooed on my arse.

    Edit : Probably

Tries to erase a mental picture of where Pinocchios's nose is pointing on SHG's new tattoo!

I didn't say Yann was out of order?
  • I guess Bournemouth are waiting for Iturbe's work permit to be approved before anyone leaves... They might even want to try and sign Grabban again and wont release any players until they've adequate cover.

Reckon Yann could quite easily be a deadline signing... If we get him then Watt will sign perm for Cardiff, reckon thats what Fraeye meant the other day when he said that the situation will assessed with him

Watt will not sign for Cardiff until his loan runs out, January 16th.

In the event of his return, two things would apply:
    1) The team would be strengthened by his presence
    2) Protests against Duchatelet will continue.

If he doesn't return, the protests against Duchatelet will continue.

Sorry..previous posters saying money grabber etc. But does anyone other than the people involved know the true story?.
  • Kermorgant would no doubt improve the squad (though he's two years older and another couple of yards slower), but are we really meant to believe that he's the best target man available on loan across the whole universe of potential realistic targets?

Like Johnson and Poyet, it smacks of lack of scouting resources or worse, short-term fan appeasement.

    Panic springs to mind.
  • I love Kermorgant but wouldn't want him to come back under this regime, same as how I feel about Chris Powell. But under different owners 110% yes!

Can you blame him if he was? In his 30s and a career which only got traction after he joined us.

He did well under Howe in a team which passes the ball.

No doubt we'll bring him back and spend 90mins hoofing it aimlessly towards him in the hope that he'll win a few headers.

We don't have scouts so we're just re-signing players we've already employed!

Our current scout is Mark Stow, previous head scout of Watford and Cardiff

Yann scored 15 goals and was a key player for the Champions of this league last season, we would have to search very long and very hard to find a better target man who would come to a side currently second from bottom. Unlike with Johnson and Poyet there will be plenty of sides much higher in the league after him.

We wouldn't have to search long and hard if we'd tied him down in the first place.

The team that Duchatelet and Meire ripped apart within months of taking over had the core of a very good Championship side to build on. It's no coincidence that Hamer, Stephens, Morrison, Poyet and Yann have all gone on to play for either sides competing for the Premier League, or for clubs at that level.

Guy Luzon and Katrien can help with the work permit...

Have you seen a better target man in the Championship in the last 2 years? Not sure I have.

He's skillful, combative, aerially dominant and inventive - that is a pretty potent mix in one player at this level.True he's never been the fastest mover, but its not an essential quality for his type of player, and he isn't out and out prolific, but I'm not sure there are that many better alternatives who we could realistically attract.

That's what made letting him leave in the first place such a bad move.

Next Dale Stephens will be heading north back to Charlton.
