For the UFC fans out there - who do you think takes home the belt after this one?
Can't be easy for McGregor preparing for such a different opponent but don't think he had much choice other than to take the fight given his talk and all the fans heading over there.
I'm off to Vegas this evening - can't wait!

Have a good one Ross great card... I got Mendes based on the opponent change working in his favour. Looking forward to the weigh ins now...

Should be a great fight, totally different fight for Conor. All the time the fight is standing up I think he'll win, soon as it goes down (which I think Chad will do) I think we'll have a really interesting fight.

Unfortunately I think Mendes as well, especially without Connor having a full camp preparing for a wrestler. It happens so often that a wrestler grinds out a win and saps the energy and will out of their opponent. It'll be interesting to see if he really goes for a quick finish before he gets taken down or whether he's confident enough in his defence/jujitsu off his back

I think McGregor in the first 5 by a stoppage. An outstanding fighter.

UFC will be desperate to have Conor win, he's like their sport's Hatton.

Saying that I think he'll win, then lose to Aldo in the next fight.

There's something not right about Conor. I watched the weigh in and his eyes were all over the place .

I thought he'd seemed wierd in all of the interviews since they changed opponents - he looked a lot more forced and like he couldn't be arsed which isn't how he normally seems with a camera in his face!

Mendes is legit one of the best in the world at this weight. mcGregor is untested at this level.

bedsaddick - maybe he's still disappointed that he's not fighting Aldo tonight?

What makes tonight so intriguing is we're waiting to see: Just how good is Conor McG?

Fair play to the Irish, huge contingent here, atmosphere should be incredible

Also, a word for Lawler-Macdonald... any other evening, we'd be talking about this. Rory to win the belt.

Could be a fight of the year contender.

Hopefully Mendes will knock McGregor out to shut him up but then if he loses he might not get a shot at Jose Aldo.

Just seen an awesome video of about 5000 boys in green taken over a casino!

I am not into the UFC stuff but watched a bio of McGregor on TV the other night.

Physically the guy is an awesome specimen, unbelievably fit and powerful and seems to be mentally very tough.

My favourite piece was seeing his stable-mate Paddy "The Hooligan" Hoolahan - what a nickname.

Good win for McGregor, but what a fantastic under card. The Robbie Lawler / Rory MacDonald fight was absolutely brutal and one of the best i have ever seen.

More punches thrown in the Mayweather fight and that was shite. Load of wrestling around on the floor , just don't get UFC one little bit.

It's quite obvious you don't get it.
Of course there was more punches thrown in the Mayweather fight. That was boxing and it last's 12 rounds not 5 .
Wasn't as many kicks in that Mayweather fight though was there.
  • Just watched it. UFC is so hard to call. A result can hinge on fractions. Mendes was so close to locking in a submission a couple of times in that 2nd round, then got complacent at the very end of the round, got caught & BOOM.....it's all over

Unbelievable atmosphere in the arena, by far the best I've ever experienced. The prelims were awful but the main card made up for it. It took over an hour to get out of the mgm in between the Irish dancing on the poker tables!

I guess that's why its called the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The ground work is another discipline that the fighters have to learn. Fighting is not just about punching. A top class UFC fighter will always beat a boxer under UFC rules. McGregor would beat Mayweather under UFC rules. So I guess as all round fighters they have a large edge over boxers.
I've trained with a couple of UFC boys and when they get a lock on you, you tap out or it gets broken.

I just watched the Lawler v MacDonald fight. That was the best UFC fight this year. I don't know how MacDonald carried on with his face so mashed up?
