I understand the policy of putting faith in youth if they are good enough but we were talking to 2 players to sign at the end of the transfer window so if the younger players are good enough now surely they were good enough at the end of August and the need to bring in these 2 players was not necessary at that time or am I missing something?
It seems as simple as having to muster the resources you have available, and to have as positive an attitude towards it as you can. I think the Charlton boss would prefer to get points however they arrive, with whatever players he has available.
Keep talking of youth and talking up your academy and it
a) gives confidence to the lads in the academy that they will play which results in the likes of Gomez and KAG signing long term deals and
b) encourages some of those fed up at other MASSIVE clubs like Arsenal (Ansah), Man City (essiani) and Wednesday (Ayo) to sign for us.
Good tactic and whilst we have the youngsters with ability to make the move up one we should be exploiting hard with a view to creating a virtuous circle.
If major gaps appear to our detriment I am sure loans will be used but they are rarely successful and therefore money burnt.
I'm liking the sound of this because we have some excellent young players at the club! I think I noticed Muldoon was involved in the pre match walm up v Birmingham which is great for him to be that close to first team action! Gomes and Ahearn-Grant have got the taste already
I think the bottom line is RD does not want to waste money on loan signings. I think it is a dangerous game relying too much on the kids. We need a hold up centre forward and a box to box midfielder. But i can't see anyone coming in until January.
Love Bob just a shame we didn't get in the two or three players we needed to make us top 6 come May. Been a funny old season for us so far as I think in most games the football has been superb in 10 to 20 mins periods and in same game has been equally as shit as we have seen in the last 3 seasons. That's progress I suppose, so onwards and upwards for hopefully a top ten finish at the end. One thing I've realised though is that we have a real weird set of supporters ie staying away because of RD or slagging of Bulot after 3 games because he ain't got a double hat trick.
Loan market can be a crapshoot and we only get 1 or 2 potential options when we have plenty of options in the academy. Good on Bob, absolutely love him so far
I've yet to have the pleasure of watching Ahearne-Grant in action. For those who have, is the possibility of a 442 with him and Igor up front not possible?

Ahearne- Grant has improved a lot since last season, he is a very good prospect. Whether he could cope with being a regular starter against Championship defenders I am not sure. I think he will feature on the bench and the Cup games. But the bottom line is we are short of strikers, PP is on loan as is Pigott and Reza. Church is not fancied by Peeters and will leave the Club when his contract runs out. That leaves us with Vetokele and Tucudean, and a youngster Ahearne- Grant which is not enough for the whole season.
We have arrived at the international break unbeaten without additional loans...and I think we need to see how we do in the next three games against bottom half teams to then assess where things might go. Bob talks of it being disrespectful of the squad if he were to be bringing in loans and I buy that...if we can keep going as we are then I think respect to the owner, management and squad is in order! Bringing in a top striker will not be cheap...let's see what happens in the next ten games...if we secure 15 points we are a player and perhaps the cheque book comes out as flagged by Meire and Peeters a month or so back. Looking forward to Bournemouth, Bolton and Fulham - those games will tell us how the season will pan out...and give Bulot a chance to adjust to double the high intensity running compared to Belgium. It's been a great season to date and I really hope we keep going. Arriving in 2015 with a decent points tally could set us up for the best season in a long, long time.
The stated ambitions at the start of the season were to stabilise our position in the Championship with the current squad. Providing opportunities for promissing Academy players was always part of that plan and Peeters has stood by that; his public statement on the opportunities for the young players is a real boost for them.
But is was also indicated that by the January window, if promotion is a real possibility, RD would make funds available for the push for promotion. Sounds reasonable to me! Personnaly, I am very reassured by the progress that has been made this season and can't wait for the season to restart after this s...ing break!
Michael Smith is no more proven at Championship level than Ahearne-Grant.
After scoring goals on loan in league 1, we sell him at the same time as Jann who was the only other player who could head a ball in our forward line. Was never given a chance to prove himself and was forced to leave.
Yes i have moved on but just answering the question.
Plus Michael is over 5 years older and stronger than Kag,
By the sound of it Kag could be a class player, but the CB's in the championship don't take prisioners.
Connor wickham played at just 17 (kag's age) but was 6 foot 3in.
I can't see any point in paying professionals to play in the U-21's if we're not prepared to play them under any circumstances. If players like Munns, Holmes-Dennis and Ahearne -Grant are given the chance to test themselves at a higher level it will give Bob a clearer idea of what is needed in January.
Rooney, Owen, Vaughn, sterling, Fossell, Cadamarteri all played and scored in the premiership at 17. Not saying KAG is at that level but if Bob believes he is good enough why not.

True they did.
Would also like to see kag play, maybe as impact sub, while they build him up.
Vaughn had bad injuries as teenager with Everton and Owen said playing so many matches so young was not condusive to having a long career. Fossell and Cadamarteri never really progressed. while there's talk that Sterling may need a rest.
Wayne Rooney was built like a ox at 16 (seemed bulkier than he is now) so can understand why he played so young.

Yes this is the party line, but it does not make any sense given where we are in the league. The argument that a forward on loan would block a youth player does not work because we do not have a holding forward in the youth team (and arguably not in the whole squad).
This is the time to invest, when we are on the up and we can attract somebody with the possibility of a promotion battle. There is a lot to like about RD and his regime, but this stubborn refusal to change tactics when a new opportuniy arises is not very impressive.

Who's available?
Someone like Chris Wood would be perfect for us right now. Firmly believe if we have someone up top to free up Igor we'll score more goals and won't be chasing possession as much like we have been.

Proven scorer at champ level, plus at 22 the young Kiwi would be a great fit.
Again the wages of a Prem reserve player will be a stumbling block.
His selections, especially on the bench choices for youngsters to get some 'big match' experience, back up his philosophy .. two 17 year olds have recently made first team debuts. Whilst there are several 'borrowed' players who are regular 1st team choices, Peeters is talking more about reinforcing the squad in the future and not so much what was done over last summer. If you don't give 'home grown' youth a chance, just what is the point of maintaining an expensive academy system?

It makes a lot of sense to me: 1) they are managing expectations with the fans - finishing between 7th and 16th makes no difference to where we are next summer. On the other hand, if we can finish 5thbor 6th the current squad and coaching set up have to prove potential by delivering wins against bottom half teams. 2) they are respecting the ambition, potential (and budget) of the current set up - let's see how they go in the next few games 3) my own estimate is that we need 2 x €3m players in January... With the cup and weather we might have a lot of games... CAFC can only look to buy a 25% chance of promotion via the play-offs... It is therefore way too early to talk of another cull of players to raise the bar. What I mean is that for any player brought in, he is pushing others down or even out of the pecking order.
On a different note one would hope that comms between Peeters, Meire, Duchatelet and the head of finance were not conducted via the newshopper! I think that article is for us and not Belgium!
