Really? That's terrible, as you say, ripping the hearts out of pubs. All that lovely brass and copper has gone and so has the atmosphere and character of the pub.

Off to Broadstairs tomorrow where there is a fantastic old pub,'The Brown Jug' off the Ramsgate Rd, where the septuagenarian land lady still tots up the round in her head. No music, no machines, just locals talking and drinking or playing boules in the garden. Also, the 'The Thirty - nine Steps', a micro pub in the town centre with some good local ales.
Then 'The Life boat', in Margate,a small pub with a bank of proper ciders and perrys, some of which are decidedly trippy.
Interesting to see the first seeds of Chirpy's micro pub starting to take root at the beginning of the the thread.0 -
For any lifers that attend Clancy's on a match day, the pub was open as per normal as at 18:30hrs this evening. Ignore the blind and ignorant.Baldybonce said:I can confirm Clancys is closed and there is a horrible smell in Charlton.

Clanceys has been taken over by new owners 3 weeks ago - different staff but definitely open.0

I used to like The Victoria, you could park up by the Barrier and go straight in. The wobbly floor reminded me of the Crooked House in Peter Pans playground. They used to to nice rolls pre-wrapped in cling film - the fastest pub grub ever, no messing around they were just bunged over the bar with your drinks.Baldybonce said:

Sad to read the Woodman by the drill Hall has gone many a good time in outside as a youngster with a bottle of pop a local for Grazeley Close drinkers..........guess its going to be flats ? least the Nelson down the road became an Indian0

yesterday about 10.30 AM outside the Sun In The Sands large group(10 at least) of African ladies and gents with clip boards etc looking the place over---------no idea if the place is for sale but last time i saw that it was outside the Horse and Groom.0

I was in the prince Albert in Bexleyheath in may, and was'mt impressed by the removal of all the brass. It just looked empty, but I will add the cheese board offer was very welcome halfway through the night.0

Clancy's is most definitely still open. Was in the Sun in the Sands recently and they showed no sign of closing, though you can see it must be a struggle to make ends meet.

Fantastic news - our people-powered pubs campaign has defeated the government!
On Tuesday night, the government was forced to pass a law which bans pub companies from charging their landlords rip-off rents. [1] This was an unfair practice which squeezed the pennies of our local pub landlords while those at the top of pub chains made huge profits.
It’s great news for our pubs - and proves that people-power works. Over 45,000 signed a petition calling for an end to the Great British Pub Scandal - then over 2500 of us emailed our MPs to make sure they voted the right way. And they did.
But it wasn’t an easy win - up until the last minute it looked like MPs would vote the wrong way. Then they u-turned - and this doesn’t happen often. In fact, Tuesday’s vote was the government’s first defeat on one of their bills since the coalition formed in 2010. [2]
This proves just how powerful we are together. The government was on the side of giant corporations, until we spoke up. Thank you for being a part of this amazing victory for our pubs.

My parents live there and my Dad and brother had been enthusing about it. I must admit I was a bit sceptical about it but was pleasantly surprised. No music, no TV, no cooked food, no mobiles, no fruit machines. no spirits and NO LAGER! Just ale, mostly local independent stuff and real local ciders plus limited wine. It's not a micro-brewery, just basically a room that serves bloody good beer and the emphisis is on local people socialising. All a bit middle aged and middle class but then I guess that's me!

From the local paper last week;
PUB chain JD Wetherspoon is to open 200 new pubs and create 15,000 jobs over the next five years, the company has announced.
The firm said it will invest more than £400 million developing new pubs across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
Wetherspoon, which already operates 931 pubs and employs 34,000 staff, said the new jobs will be spread across the new outlets as well as at existing sites.0
