Spoke briefly to BB in the canteen at SL during a quick tea break in the gardening.
Really friendly guy, but as said in the interview, very humble which is refreshing.
Reiterated that although we won on Tues evening & there was a lot of good things on view, there were also some that need more work.
I told him that plenty of fans were astounded at the quality of our passing game especially in the first 20 mins or so and he agreed that the pitch is spot on for this type of football. However, he felt we sat back after George scored & the halftime talk was around attack in the second half. Agreed we had more clear cut chances to score than Derby .
He also congratulated the ground staff at SL ( NOT Standard Liege!) on preparing the pitches there in the way he asks- plenty of water was mentioned - and it's clear he's a perfectionist where this is concerned as the state of the grass is vital in order to play in the manner he expects.
The squad is travelling north by train tomorrow & he expects a tough game on Saturday. It's obvious that he will not underestimate our opposition this season & is only too aware of the quality in the Championship.
Meeting BB only reinforced my opinion that we are in safe hands with him at the helm - something we may have questioned a few weeks ago.
It obviously helps that we're winning, but I've liked hearing what Bob has to say so far. Allowing for the occasional bit of muddled English that comes from it being his second (or third?) language, he's a plain speaker and I get the impression he is being as honest and open as any football manager ever is. He knows what he wants and seems to have set high standards, but is also realistic about the speed with which we can/need to reach those standards.
It's far from the be-all-and-end-all, but it feels like he fits in with the Charlton way of doing things and despite his not completely fluent English (although it very far from bad) he certainly makes a whole lot more sense than Pardew or Dowie ever did in their pressers.
