A nice picture taken this afternoon. Looks Premiership quality.

Sure does, always think that's the best angle for a pic! Wish they'd make new players walk round to the SE corner for their pic!

They are either side of the dug outs.
  • Don't no if any one else has mentioned it but looks like they've made pitch bigger. Looks closer to advertising boards and stand. Must be for the free flowing passing football we are going to play this season.

Its at the very maximum allowed.

I very much doubt that. I think it was 72 yards wide and the max is 100 .

  • Cue somebody to find out later in the season that our pitch is 2cm too long and all our wins up to that point are invalid...

Probably looks bigger/closer to stands as the whole pitch is now higher, means there is less of a drop from the front of the stands to pitch level and therefore less of a visual gap from pitch edge to front row of seats.

I don't doubt that. But not 28 or so yards wider as stonewall was suggesting.
It's probably wider by 4-6 yards as the linesmans running area is now playing surface with the old red track now the AstroTurf the linos run on.

Fair enough. I meant its as big as we can get it at the Valley. Thought i read it somewhere.

On this thread forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/comment/1920177#Comment_1920177 Seth said it was 4 yards wider and two yards longer so that makes it 114 yards x 77 yards I think.

I was told that supporters in the front rows of all stands will pay a premium on their tickets as they are now closer to the action. ;)

The length of a pitch must be between 100 yards (90m) and 130 yards (120m)
The width not less than 50 yards (45m) and not more than 100 yards (90m).

That is a lot of variation in size... you could by those rules have a square pitch? 100 yards x100 yards?

That would be horrible unless you're a winger!

Don't want to sound ungrateful but wish they'd done the west upper this summer. Only thing letting the ground down at the moment.

the toilets in the West Lower are a disgrace, will report on the East Stand one's after Saturday. Alright making the ground look nice for the camera's etc but other things are just as important.

It's not allowed to be a square (unlike me).

Wembley, by comparison is 115 yards x 75 yards. So in sq yards, The valley pitch is now bigger.

That's very wide, is the extra width on both sides, as the East side is bordered by a rather hard and unforgiving concrete wall which you really wouldn't want to hit!

You can't have a square pitch, league rules are:

13.1 The dimension of the field of play for all League organised matches shall be as follows:

    Maximum length 120yds (110 metres)

    Minimum length 110yds (100 metres)

    Maximum width 80yds (75 metres)

    Minimum width 70yds (64 metres)

Why were they a disgrace ? Urinals and sinks seemed fine. Didn't go in the traps.
