Why right back? Solly, Wilson, Nego are surely enough.Athletico Charlton said:Keeper, right back, creative midfielder, right wing and target man please.

Reckon it'll be this team with Gomez occupying the other Centre-Back slotRomseyAddick said:By the sounds of things I think we'd be lining up like this:
Pope
Solly - Morrison - Bikey/Gomez - Wiggins
Gudmunsson - Jackson - Cousins - Moussa
Tucudean - Vetokele
In my mind one other striker would be ideal, as Piggy and Spongey need a League 1 loan to get themselves set for the Championship, and another GK is a must. If you think that Wilson, Reza, Harriott and to a lesser extent Nego can play RW or LW we may be alright, but an extra body that can play right across the midfield (Collison anyone?) would push this squad into the top half - if not into contention for the last playoff place.
Blind optimism? Maybe, but I for one am finally excited by a Charlton team for the first time in a while.0 -
To be fair we have no idea what the team is. I wouldn't like to predict it until final pre season game.0
-
Those going to Ebbsfleet next week will have a better idea0
-
Unless we play 5 in midfield is Jackson gonna struggle to get into the team now? From the team above I could see Buyens in his place.1

Is that cover for Wilson, Nego and Solly?!Athletico Charlton said:Keeper, right back, creative midfielder, right wing and target man please.
I go with @callumcafc in that there's a loan window and we have enough players to see us through the first 10 games. There's enough new players to induct already. Any more and they are blocking the youngsters coming through. There's a call to be made on keeper and I wonder what the club will do there?
If we are playing 4-3-3 we have more than enough players but wouldn't say no if a loan improves the quality in a certain area... or covers if we get an early injury. Tucudean is the new target man but if he doesn't cut it then I would hope someone else is found.

This would be my guess if we play 4 - 3 -3CAFCsayer said:-----------Pope
Solly Morrison Gomez Wiggins

Gudmunsson Tucudean Vetokele
Yet so far we have lined up 4 -4-2 in both games in Belgium and i think the same at Welling (I wasn't there).
The talk was that BP was a young product of the Belgian coaching system where 4 -3-3 is the norm so I expected to see that line up.
Perhaps it is easier for the players to play 4-4-2 ie a formation they know until BP has coached them for a while.
I guess there will be a lot of work in Spain.0 -
I think Big Bob is considering that 4-4-2 is the most common formation in English football, so trying that first.Henry Irving said:

With the players that we have, I think 4-3-3 may be the better formation, but fair play to BP, for trying out the formation he thinks the existing players (and particularly the "young guns") are more used to.
And I can't believe, considering the World Cup he had, everyone is discounting Reza...

Would defo like to see 433
I don't think we have an imposing enough cm for 4421 -

Still think Reza will be sold. No inside info but this is the time to sell him while his stock is high.
Also Igor is BPs player and I can't see the two of them starting together. Rumanian George is a better pairing and Johan B Gud is a natural winger, unlike RG

Looking a lot more encouraging than the squads Powell was allowed to put together at this level. Stick Yann and Stephens in there and it's looking like a challenger.bobcafc7 said:Don't think we need to much more to be honest
Pope/Phillips
Solly/Wilson
Morrison/Ben Haim
Gomez/bikey/Lennon
Wiggins/fox
Wilson/nego
Buyens/cousins
Moussa/Jackson
Gudmunsson/harriot
Reza/tucudean
Vetokele/church
So in an ideal world I'd get an experienced back up goalkeeper a right mid/winger and send church out on loan and bring in another striker but I don't think we're to far off .
I think we're light on the right flank still - not convinced by Nego and certainly not in midfield - and to only have one big guy in the squad up front is a bit of a risk if he breaks his leg in September.
In an ideal world, I'd like an alternative lump up front, a tricky quick right winger, and another creative central midfield option. And an experienced goalkeeper.
Looking very light on Championship experience down the spine as well.

I thought all forein coaches played 4--5--1 and 4--4--2 was the old way, most prem teams play 4-5-1 and quite a few championship teams play this as well,if we want to keep up with the times it will be 4-5-1 then0
-
Bit of a sweeping generalisation there. Anyway 4-5-1 is only a fom of 4-3-3, depends if you are defending or attacking, playing a diamond midfield or whatever :-01

Right that's number 7 ticked off (target man). What do we need now? A goalie? Creative midfielder?
Are we done after that?
GK and another couple of utility players.0 -

He'll be with Damien Matthew everyday and naturally they'll be discussing options for the best way forward together. If nothing else, Matthew will be imparting his working knowledge and experience of Charlton in the Championship.
I believe you've made a good point, Loopy ....... it's logical that they will try out formations that the nucleus of players are already familiar with.
It'll bring the players onside with the management and make everybodies' job a lot easier, especially integrating the new players with the rump of last season's squad.

The only thing that can make Church a 20 goal Championship striker (as his agent promised) - is Harry Potter's magic wand.RomseyAddick said:By the sounds of things I think we'd be lining up like this:

He's got one

It's broken...0 -
Anyone know the situation with Cywka? Thought he might make a useful addition to the squad seeing as he has Championship experience. Or have I missed something?1

Both of these formations are weak on goalkeeping experience, midfield creativity and championship experience up front.Valiantphil said:

I'm exited by the signings of Moussa,Gudmunsson,Igor and to a lesser degree Buyens and Bikey but not so with Tucu(dont know anything about the guy) and Ben Haim but what concerns me will they be playing for the shirt or the money.
