    The problem with CP's recruitment is that he very rarely, if ever brings someone in who a) goes straight into the starting XI and b) improves the side, the summer 2012 clearout excepted.

    Stewart came in but had one decent game in six (at best), Fuller was 3rd striker when Yann & Haynes were fit. Is AA or Tudgay 2st choice in a 4-4-2? I'd say not. Sordell came with a £3m price tag and despite failing to impress he didn't go straight into side.

    It was mentioned on the BBC interview but it wasn't cleat when the interview with the Standard DOF, who said it, took place.

    CP is obviously not included then seeing as he is at the VIP meeting tonight and preparing the team for Sunday.

    Well off the top of my head I'd say Yann and Haynes. BWP. Gower although he didn't really sparkle. If you've got a fairly settled unit of players then recruits are going to have to wait their turn.

    I think he did exactly that. It just turned out he wasn't very good so he didn't stick there too long.

    It's clearly not going to be RD representing Charlton as he represents all the clubs (and it sounds like this is more on an operational level).

    We're being represented by Avram Grant obviously. :)

    We are assuming its about policy and control, but it could just be about budget.

    There is a lot of noise by RD about breaking even, which implys a hefty cut in wage budget to achieve in the championship, where we are already (aparently) in the bottom 5 in terms of budget. Powell can have all the control he wants on who comes in but if you've not got the budget to pay them you might as well hand control to someone else.

    We view Powells transfer dealings as a success because of the championship he won and a league position last season. However that may not look successful to RD because of the losses made to achieve it.

    If there is a big difference in terms of budget expectations and / or what constitutes success next season with that budget, this could be what is giving him pause.

    This is good news for charlton. If CP was just concerned about himself he would sign the contract and be protected if he got sacked.

    He clearly wants to make sure 1. If we stay up he has funds enough to push on or 2. If we are relegated players are not sold off on the cheap.

    To me he should be applauded for again thinking about us more than himself

    I think this can be seen as a positive statement for the owner, as well as an honest and important one by Chris Powell, since it makes clear that an acceptable financial deal is on the table and RD is not using the contract situation to drive Chris out.

    I do have concerns about whether an agreement will be reached and what it might foreshadow if it isn't, because I don't believe it's about investment per se.

    Hmmm...footballing issues. Contracts for eg Hamer, Morro, JJ could be part of the issue - who decides whether they get offered them and on what terms? Going back to Jan, it wasn't only about CP not having a say in who came in, but also their terms - we now have Polish Pete and Loic Nego on long-term contracts, using up a chunk of the budget, yet CP doesn't seem convinced that they are any good...

    A signing's got to earn his right to be in the starting xi like everyone else. Remember when people were put in the first team straight away and kept there even though they were gash? Yeah, Alan Pardew was our manager then.

    Fuller was quality and it was only finances that meant he didn't stay here. The fact he was 3rd choice was more down to his age more than anything else

    Come on ... fans stop buying season tickets or stop attending games for many reasons, be it finance, distance, or discomfort with ownership / playing style / management etc etc ... doesn't mean they're part time fans
