Reza took the easy option yesterday and went down rather theatrically. He deserved to be booked. Players who seek to profit from diving and rolling around are cheats. As others have said, let's hope the manager has a word with him.
I remember Garry Nelson scoring at Notts County. Fouled in the penalty area, he stumbled and fell, but got to his feet, won the loose ball, turned away from the flummoxed defender, drew the keeper and scored. Nelson never thought about waiting for the referee to blow for a penalty. His mentality was to win the ball and to score. This goal stays in my mind as one of the most satisfying that I've seen a Charlton forward score.

I think that players abroad do tend to go down easily and it is a case of acclimatisation to the English League. The management need to instruct him and pull him up on it in training or like Suarez he will get a reputation and miss out on legitimate calls.

Ye like Young, Sturridge, Wilshere and welbeck... They all do it including the English.

I like a bit of diving tbf. Just don't get caught. EDIT - I don't like straight cheating, but going down under contact and blatant dives are two different things in my eyes. First on Sat was legit, second deserved booking.

Right in front of me and I didn't read it as a dive. I certainly did not see it as a yellow card, but I think Referees have it in the front of their minds now.

Not a pen or a dive... Looks like he slipped to me
  • As soon as he did it, me and everyone around me said straight away that he would be booked for that (I am in north lower so had a good view).

As I stated on the match thread, people are looking at his performance through rose tinted goggles because he is the 'exciting new signing with a flashy long surname that would get you excited if you were playing football manager'. In reality on the day, there wasn't much difference in performance between him and Scapegoat Sordell.

That's what I thought, too. His left foot slipped in the mud.

He was going over very easily all game, and the last one really looked like a dive, but at the time & on replay. If he wants to come out & claim he simply slipped over, well maybe i might revise my opinion...but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm hoping SCP will 'have words'....

For me there was contact for the first but he went down easily. That influenced the ref but a fair few would have given it. Might have helped if he was playing for Man Utd at old Trafford - but refs don't give them for us. Players at all levels are generally told not to dive, but if you feel a touch go down to help the ref see it. I wouldn't say the first one was anything more than that, but if you try to help an English lower league ref (crappiest of the crap) you are generally making it worse for yourself!

The second was a dive, but the ref could have given him the benefit - but I think he wanted to underline that he had got the first one right - which I personally don't think he did!

If he slipped, why does he look straight at the ref ?

Answer : to see if a penalty was going to be awarded or he was going to get a yellow card.

If you're going to dive, at least make a decent attempt & wait for some contact.

His diving was probably the worst diving I've ever seen. Pathetic.

    Well I liked him.

Thought he showed good awareness and touch. Direct and good strength. Just the player we need at the moment. Needs Peter up there with him.

Going back to the original two questions...

    1. Not sure how anyone can realistically see that as a pen with the footage on here. He just MIGHT have slipped but three times?

    2. Thought he showed good strength, backing into bigger defenders and turning them more than once.

Will be digging this thread back up when he goes down against Millwall and wins us a Pen.

From the 90 minutes i saw of him on saturday, he's potentially the best off the shoulder striker we've had for ages.

Fair point. Any player can do anything against Millwall as far as I'm concerned :-)

He's split the community 2-1 in diving and in half on whether he's strong or weak, I'm liking him already :p Seriously though he looks handy, and he'll only get better as he adjusts to the footy.

Tom Daley would have been proud of it.
