Any budding poets on here?

(For an article - I attempted for a bttv article using the first verse)

Remember, remember the 5th of December..

At Selhurst and Upton we'd rot
We saw no reason for one more season away from the Valley forgot

The original

Remember, remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason, why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, guy, t'was his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England's overthrow.

By God's mercy he was catch'd
With a darkened lantern and burning match.
So, holler boys, holler boys, Let the bells ring.
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the king.

And what shall we do with him?
Burn him!

And this verse, erm...

Remember, remember, the fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot!
A stick or a stake for King James' sake
Will you please to give us a faggot
If you can't give us one, we'll take two;
The better for us and the worse for you!

  • Remember, remember the fifth of December
    We're hating this Selhurst pit
    East Terrace bonfires will burn
    And good times return
But against Millwall we'll always be shit
  • The fifth of December 1992
The exile is over, our dreams have come true
Where ever we roam, be it near of far
Singing Valley, Floyd Road, our only desire

(the official second verse to VFR as sung on the record)
  • @Henry Irving not sure its the same meta (apologies long time since I did A'level English, but the sentiment is good)

    @AFKABartram excellent

    any more?

  • For many years did we once roam,
Before returning to our spiritual home,
To see goals from Sir Clive
    And Scott Parker’s drive,
Now we can’t afford Cameron Jerome

that one sounds more like a limerick,

There once was a lad named Addick..
  • Remember Remember the 5th of December
No longer would Home be Away
Our exile was over no longer the Rover
The Valley was where we would play

Remember Remember the 5th of December
The day when the Addicks came back.
Our voices now heard in a Valley crescendo
But not mine - cos' I got the sack. :-)

  • Remember, remember the fifth of December
    In Nineteen, ninety and two
I see no reason, why Valley Floyd seasons
    Should ever be forgot.

Col Walsh, goal, t'was his intent
To free a kick and curl in net
Eight nought thousand whom paid to go
    To prove old Portsmouth's overthrow

On sod's mercy he let loos'd
From a passing Pitcher and burning strike.
So, Valley boys, Valley boys, Let the Thames sing.
Valley boys, Valley boys, God save a win.

And what shall we do with him?

    Love him!
  • Remember, remember the fifth of December
In Palace no more shall we rot.
Since the start of the season, we 'thought there's no reason,
'Why our return to the Valley's forgot.'

    Scoring goals 'twas Medonca's intent
To blow time on the scum's endless crimes
Three score goals put passed Suckling
Would for sure prove the Addicks on top
